Pros: Nice scent, safe for the baby, love the purple tube, relief right away!
Cons: None!
The Bottom Line: Use it after you are done nursing your baby. You can use it just in general. I will continue using it even after I am healed!

| Dinaker's Full Review: Lansinoh For Breastfeeding Mothers |
Where do I begin! We have a four and a half year old boy and a 3 month old little boy! I breast fed our first son for just over a year, no problems. I plan on doing the same with our newest arrival!
About 3 days ago I was feeding our infant and noticed I was beginning to become really sore on my right side. It was strange. I continued to feed him as normal, every three hours right on the nose. I would feed on the left side and start to dread him feeding on the right because my nipple was so sore. Well, after a quick examination of myself I noticed it..........the dreaded crack! OUCH!!!!!! I decided I liked child birth more than I did having my precious little boy eat on that breast! By the end of today, I couldn't take the pain anymore. I was at my sons school dropping him off for the day and sat in the parking lot and I called our local La Leche' League and talked with someone. She gave me a few suggestions, switch positions with Nicholas, instead of cradling him, try the football hold, have him eat more often on that side, get something called Lansinoh, which is pure lanolin and or try pumping.
So off my sore nipple and I went home to try all of the above. By now, even if my shirt rubbed across my right side, I shrieked! Lord help me, I need relief of this pain! Here we go with the football hold of the little guy, well...............he latched on and the pain was so excruciating, I almost fainted, not only did I have a cracked nipple, it now was slightly torn! I was in tears, sobbing, bleeding you name it, it was me. I called my girlfriend Gina, told her my situation, begged her to stop at the drugstore for me and pick up something called Lansinoh. This was at 1:30 this afternoon, I counted the minutes until she arrived. Meanwhile, I had called my OB and they said I could go ahead and put a little bit of Neosporin on it. I did and also covered it with a band aid, I was in so much pain.
Gina arrived, she knew which side of me was being neglected. One breast looked like an A cup and the other a DD. I took the tube out of the box. It's about a 2oz tube. It's light purple and has a flip top. I read the back a little, it's hypoallergenic and all natural. I'm always trying my best to keep my nipples clean for the baby, it made me feel good to know that it was ok if I nursed and had some on my breast, the baby would be perfectly safe. I opened the tube, it had a soft scent, it is a clear kind of yellow color ointment. I took just a dab of it and placed it on the sore area, and just took a sigh of relief. You only need a tiny bit, a little will go a long way. This tube will last you for years!
So I went about my day, trying not to think about the pain and the next feeding. Well it came time, and I fed Nicholas on my left side and then it was time. I looked closely first to see the injured area which was on the lower part of the nipple. It wasn't healed, but it looked better. At least it was soft. Well, I couldn't do it. I go to the right side just yet, so I just went back to the left side. I put him down to bed and got out my breast Pump. So I procrastinated, scared to death of the pain. I knew it was still going to be sore, but maybe the pain wouldn't be as intense since it had softened up a little. I placed the pump on my breast and the tears started before I even turned it on. 1,2,3 GO! Took a deep breath and low and behold, it was a little sore, but I was able to pump 5oz in 15 minutes.
Lansinoh worked for me. I know I am on the road to recovery! I am taking it everywhere I go until I'm better. It was within a 8 hour time period that I started using it up until now, and I feel so much relief and comfort.
Keep those nipples soft ladies. You do not want to go through what I just did today. I will recommened this to all the mommies to be that I know. It is a little pricey, but like I said this tube is going to last you for years, a little bit goes and long way and it is so worth the price!
