Pros: Controls blood sugar levels in diabetics.
Cons: Some people have phobias with needles.
When my husband was first diagnosed with diabetes several years ago he was first put on Lantus insulin. Giving himself injections were all new and it didn't take long for him to discover that he was not one to be able to handle it. Having me give the injection was even worse. He had an urge that I would stab him with the needle. He ended up with an injection pen (review coming soon).
Lantus 100 ml Solution
Lantus 100 ml solution is prescribed for adults with Type 2 diabetes for high blood sugar control and also for adults and children six and over with Type 1 diabetes. When you have diabetes, your body is not able to convert and breakdown sugar properly. Taking insulin helps your body regulate your blood sugar levels and to keep them as steady as possible. Lantus is one of the insulin formulas that is most popular and used widely across the United States because it is a long acting formula.
Lantus 100 ml solution comes in a small vial where you have to fill a syringe with the insulin in order to give yourself an injection. Most people get used to the process, but others like my husband do not.
Lantus 100 ml. solution should be stored in the refrigerator.
My Two Cents
While nobody enjoys giving themselves injections, it was something that my husband really dreaded. The more he dwelled on it, the worse it got. He would go to the bathroom to give his injection and stay for long periods of time. The length of time he stayed in there varied, but most of the time it was at least 30 minutes ranging to up to one hour. At this time I suggested he make another Dr. appointment to discuss getting a prescription with a pen.
My husband started out with a 30 ml. one time a day injection. This was soon changed to 45ml a day.
It took awhile for my husband's blood sugar to get to a stable range. Now he is one two different insulin formulas a day 3 times a day.
If you are just diagnosed with diabetes and have a phobia toward needles, discuss the alternative of injection pens with your doctor. This was the only way my husband could stay in control of giving himself injections.
All three of my girls had problems with phobias with needles growing up and had to lay down for any shots and blood work while growing up or else they fainted. Now I know where they got this from.
Lantus has worked well for my husband, however everyone is different and should consult their doctors before adjusting any insulin dosages. This medication and the syringes should be kept out of reach of children.
