Re: Speed setting question (Reply to this comment)

I do recall that my LTT seemed quite stiff initially and it did loosen up eventually but not quite to the extent you have described.
As yours seems almost impossible to move and has a clicking sound, maybe it is defective.
Maybe they will offer to give you a replacement to try out before you call it quits.
Good luck.

Speed setting question (Reply to this comment)
by saugust
I just bought a LTT yesterday (01/23/2005) and can barely use the thing. On the fastest setting, I can hardly move the pedals. My thighs start burning and knees start aching after 1 minute and I can't get anywhere close to a sweat or reaching a good heart rate.
It also makes the clicking sound the FAQs mention that can be fixed with WD40. Does anyone know if this also helps loosen up the foot pedals? They're so stiff that it seems to have a lot more than the "little resistance" that the manual mentions. I'm not a complete beginning exerciser, just need to get back into a good routine and I thought this would fit the bill because it's small and supposed to be quiet, but this thing makes me feel like I've been confined to bed for months and am just teaching my muscles to work all over again. I'm returning it to Target and getting my $100 US back. My NordicTrack is big and somewhat noisy, but at least I can actually use it.

I am definitely in the latter group ... yikes!
As I live about 200 kilometres from the nearest gym, jumping on the LTT from time to time makes me feel that I am at least doing something in the way of excercise. I must admit I have slackened off over the last few months so I must get back to it.
And phew ... I break into a good sweat after about 15 minutes so I must be really unfit I guess.
thanks for the comment,

The Lateral Thigh Trainer is, I guess, an o.k. piece of equipment. It serves as my fallback, as in if I can't get to a real gym, I'll grudgingly fall back to this piece of equipment. It's fairly compact and is akin to a stairstepper (although certainly not an elliptical machine), so it will give you some cardio activity. I say some, because it takes a while to actually work up a sweat (a while being in excess of 45 minutes). Its basically my way of not feeling guilty for not having done a proper workout.
If you're an athletic person looking to this piece of equipment for winter activities, just buy a real treadmill or elliptical machine. You're not going to get much of a work out here. If you're a couch potato looking for an opportunity to watch T.V. and get mild cardio exercise, the lateral thigh trainer should be fine. Don't expect too much in the way of results or weight loss.

Do you think that Brenda could whip me into shape in time for the Chicago Meet & Greet? Cleverly written, Ms. Christine! So nice to read a review of yours again!
