| dkozin's Full Review: Latte Mocha Bluetooth Headset |
Having used an inexpensive Motorola HS815 Bluetooth headset and a Soyo Freestyler 500, I was pleasantly surprised by the Latte Mocha Bluetooth headset.
What Is Latte Mocha?
The Latte Mocha is a Bluetooth headset for Bluetooth mobile phone or device (up to Bluetooth 2.0). It works up to 10 meters (30 feet) away from the phone with no wires. The headset fits over your ear with a earhook that can be adjusted to be able to wear the headset over either left or right ear.
The headset features DSP technology, noise reduction and echo cancellation.
The talk time is rated at up to 7 hours with standby time up to 170 hours. The headset ships with a travel charger and comes in several colors: chocolate, silver, maple, raspberry, vanilla and blueberry. Yum!
How It Works
After the headset arrived, I discovered that unlike other headsets I used, it did not came in a blister pack. This is great, since I generally hate blister packs (difficult to open). The charger is a travel type and I charged the headset for about 1 hour prior to use. The DC power jack on the headset seems to be proprietary and, regrettably, not the same as the jack on my Motorola RAZR2 (micro-USB) phone so I cannot use one charger for both :(
After the headset was charged, the blue light on it went off. The process of pairing was easy, same as other headsets I dealt with. After that, the usage was easy. I mostly rely on voice dialing. Here is how it works.
You push the button on the side of the headset and say the name of the person you are trying to call. The phone recognizes the name and you hear the name repeated in the headset and then the phone dials the number. You push the button on the headset to hang up when you are done.
To redial last number, you push and hold the button. The problem is you also use the same button to turn the phone on and off. You just have to hold it longer to turn it off than if you are trying to redial the last number. I discovered that it is easier to turn the phone on or off if you watch the blue light on the headset.
The headset is comfortable and does not intrude into your ear. It also has volume control buttons that are quite effective. At the loudest setting, it is very loud. It is also stylish. But the performance is what impressed me most.
Performance
The sound quality is excellent, better than the Motorola HS815 and much, much better than the Soyo 500. Not less important is the fact that people on the other end can hear you much better than when using the aforementioned models as well. No longer do they ask me to repeat the last sentence or word. And the noise suppression with echo cancellation do seem to work well.
I also found that the talk and standby times are impressive and close to the estimates. The range is amazing. I walked away from my phone a couple of times and went to the other room (about 20-25 feet away through the concrete wall) and it was still working!
Comfort
Although the headset is not uncomfortable, the stylish loop that goes over your ear seems to get my ear tired if used for over an hour. I prefer the rubbery ear hook of the Motorola HS815. But the Moto is nowhere near as stylish and definitely lags in sound quality.
Bottom Line
I enjoy using this headset and highly recommend it, especially if you intend to use Bluetooth a lot. It is definitely worth the price and I now wonder how I could use the Soyo 500.
