Pros: educational, fun, colorful, durable
Cons: some children may get frustrated if laces fall out
There are things I remember playing with as a child. A lot of these items I bought for my children because I remember liking them so much. One thing I remember playing with were lacing kits but back then I called them sewing kits. I had purchased some lace kits for my children and one I had purchased for my young nephews was the Lauri Toys Dot-2-Dot Lacing Shapes.
The Lacing Shapes includes six shapes and six laces. The shapes include a square which is decorated like a present, a triangle that looks like a piece of pizza, the octagon is a stop sign, a circle that looks like a beach ball, a rectangle that is a fish tank and a star that looks like a sheriff badge. Each shape is made of heavy duty cardboard with the picture on only one side of the shape. The picture side is also glossy and colorful. Each shape has 24 numbered holes on them.
There are six laces. Each lace is about three feet long and has reinforced tips. The laces are red, blue and yellow. I like that there are six shapes and six laces. You don’t have to worry about children having to wait their turn as there are enough for everyone. But if you have nephews like mine they will still fight over the certain shapes and colors of laces.
I like that you can allow the children to lace the shapes anyway they like or as they got older, I encouraged them to lace them by numbers, counting along the way.
The Lacing Shapes encourage counting, shape recognition, and help with fine motor skills. So not only are the Lacing Shapes fun but they are also educational.
The Lauri Toys Dot-2-Dot Lacing Shapes are recommended for children three and older. I think the Lacing Shapes are great for any preschooler. I also think they would make a great gift for any boy or girl or it would make a great addition to any preschool classroom.
I purchased the Lauri Toys Dot-2-Dot Lacing Shapes on sale for five dollars. I have seen them still sold in stores and online for around eight dollars.
My nephews have since outgrown the Lacing Shapes and my buddy Max now enjoys them. We enjoy playing with the Lauri Toys Dot-2-Dot Lacing Shapes about once a week and they have lasted. I even enjoy sitting and playing with them too. Sometimes the boys would get frustrated with them because they would start lacing and the lace would come out of the hole. You can either know one end so this doesn’t occur or you teach them to hold the end so that it didn’t come out.
I like the Lauri Toys Dot-2-Dot Lacing Shapes as they are educational, colorful, durable and fun. We would recommend them to others with preschoolers.
