| Ang27mom's Full Review: LeapFrog Leapster Multimedia Learning System |
My neice just recieved this learning toy as a gift for her seventh birthday. I have had experience with other Leap toys but had not yet seen this one. Because of my love of toys I sat down with her after all the gifts had been opened and played with her and the Leapster for over an hour. I have to say that this is a wonderful learning toy.
First of all, the screen resolution was amazing. It outdid my sons Gameboy Advance SP. The lighting was much better as was the resolution. This screen is also a touch screen. The child can use the special pencil (stylus) that is attached to the game or their finger ( we found this out by accident when she heavily pointed to something on the screen).
The buttons on the game's body and on the screen are all very easy to understand. My seven year old neice went right to town with it without any trouble.
The Leapster has loaded "games" and you can also buy games to go with it. My niece got the Junie B. Jones Journal to go with it. This was adorable. The character was fully animated, talking and moving, on the screen. It was like my niece had her own personal cartoon talking right to her. She loved it.
I have looked at several of the other games out there and there looks to be a lot of choices. I went straight home and looked it up becuase I have a nine year old I thought would love it as well but the recommended ages are up to age 8 and after looking at the other software I'd have to agree. He would grow out of it very quickly at the age of almost 10. I would highly recommend it though for ages 6-8 and even for computer savvy 5 year olds.
Essentially, this little contraption is a mini computer. It is wonderful. The kids came play the same kind of software you can buy for your computer but it is portable. It would make a great Christmas present for sure this year!
God Bless
