| katopasna's Full Review: Leap Frog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Set |
I cant believe I have never written a review on this item yet. It is probably the only item that is played with on a DAILY basis by BOTH of my girls. What is the miracle toy? It is the Leap Frog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Set..This set isnt really a toy but yet it is..
Description..
You get little musical reader and 26 letters. All pieces are magnetic and will stick to your fridge (or oven) with no problem. Each letter is a different primary color and they all fit into the into the reader. The reader also comes with a power and volume switch.
The reader has two modes.. The first is the Alaphabet mode.. You hit the little note key and Leap will sing the alphabets for you.
The Second mode happens when you place a letter into the reader and press it down. Leap will then sing a song about the letter and sounds it makes. If the letter makes two sounds he will point out both of them.
Kids Reactions..
Talia was the first to play with the Leap Frog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Set, she was two years old when she got it and took an immediate liking to it. I should probably give credit to this toy teaching her the alphabets. Dont get me wrong.. I tried..but she wouldnt let me near it. Every time I lined them up in order and tried to teach them to her, she pushed me away so she could play in peace. She learned her ABCs before she was 2 1/2 years old. After that we worked on her numbers and I have seen her many times lining up the letters (not in order) and counting them out. (I am proud to say she can count to 30 and I did teach her that).
Kyla was next in line to play with this..she is only 1 years old but she knows how to put each letter in and get the song going. At 15 months she is already talking and I can even hear her trying to sing her ABCs with Leap. She is the one who also discovered that these stick just as good to the oven so they often move from one appliance to the other.
I have to be sure to tell everyone how durable this toy is. Kyla threw the reader into a tub full of water and I thought for sure it was dead and boy was upset but there was still signs of life. The sound was still coming out but just not as loud, it was muffled for a few weeks and I guess when it finally completely dried up Leap was going at full volume again and is still going to this day!
The reader requires 3AAAs and in all almost a year I have only had to change them once.
Recommended?
Of course, I was ready to go and buy another one if this one got fried from being wet in the tub. This toy has been loved and played with dearly. It has even gone on a few road trips over the past year. I am sure I will here the music coming out of this toy for at least another year. My one and only complaint is the we no longer can locate all 26 magnets at one time. We always seem to have 2-3 missing at one time. Kyla usually wonders off with them from room to room then they go MIA.
