| pholdermomof3's Full Review: Leap Frog Leappad Learning System |
About two weeks ago I turned on the television and it just happened to be on QVC. I couldn't find the remote and while I was looking for it something caught me eye. They were demonstrating the LeapPad Learning Center Plus. I sat and watched as my mouth hung open while I watched them demonstrate this wonderful toy. I waited for a little while and I went to QVC.com and looked at it there. Then I went to Toys R Us and they had one that I could put my hands on and play with. I went back and ordered the one from QVC, because it was the plus version for the same price that Toys R US had the basic version.
I really was hoping this toy was as good as it promised to be. My son is in the 4th grade, but is on 3rd grade reading level. One of my daughters is in 1st grade and the youngest will be four this month. I could really see this learning center as a great asset to them.
Finally the moment I had been wait for had come. The UPS man arrived with my LeapPad Learning Center Plus. I immediately ripped open the box and started testing it out. It comes with three different books.
Book One-Leap Into Learning-Features:
Lil's Loose Tooth ages 4-7
Story about Lil loosing her tooth. You can have the learning center read the book to you or you can press on each word one by one and read it. You can also press the spell it button and it will tell you the name of each letter you touch. You can also have it sound out the word for you. You can also press the lily pad at the bottom and it will play games with you.
Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever ages 4-7
It has pictures of things happening at the playground and you can press on the object and it will say the word. It also has a parts of the body section where you can press on the bear and he will say the body part. You can also press the ball and it will play a game with you.
A Sweet Good Morning ages 4-7
Story about Pooh getting the honey pot stuck on his head. Has the same features as Lil's Loose Tooth.
Our Town Band and Music Section ages 4-7
Has sections of the bands and shows the different instruments. You can press on each instrument to hear it play.
The US Map
It has a big colorful map of the US. You can either press the state and hear the name, hear the capital, population, area, density, and travel distance from one point to the next. You can also press the Eureka button and it will call out the states and see how many you get right within 45 minutes.
The Human Skeleton
It has 22 different bones listed and numbered. Press on the number and it will tell you what the bone is.
Things We Do At Home(can be spoken in English, Spanish, French, German, or Japenese)
Has these phrases: read, go to bed, listen to music, use the computer, play the piano, and eat that it says in all the above languages.
The Paper Piano
Has 10 piano keys at the top with the letters under them. Also, has a picture of a marimba, clarinet, and piano. At the bottom you can press the notes and it will play Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. You can also press any of the instruments and it will play it with them.
It also came with two other books:
A Day At Moss Lake ages 4-7
Has the same features as Lil's Loose Tooth.
The Wizard of Oz ages 7-10
This book is a chapter book that is 66 pages long. You can have the book read to you or you can touch each word and it will say the word. You can also touch the words in bold a second time and it will tell you what the word means.
We have more toys than Toys R Us, but this is more of an educational tool than a toy. It will be used in this house for many years to come. This is a great tool for any age including adults that need to learn to read or learn English.
