| vickatina's Full Review: Leap Frog My First LeapPad |
My husband and I bought "My First Leap Pad" for our 5 year old daughter as a Christmas present. We have found it to be durable, very interactive, educational, but fun at the same time.
It has shown to be a great tool in re-enforcing lessons learned in Kindergarten. For example; shapes, colors, numbers, letters, introduction to reading. It helps our daughter practice hand-eye coordination (using the attached "pen") and following directions (playing the games in the books...and there is plenty of books, with many familiar characters to choose from.
I do have a couple of suggestions for the company though...they could make the cord on the "pen" just a bit longer, and maybe a shoulder strap to carry it with. I have read somewhere that you can buy a bookbag type thing to carry the books and cartridges in, but it would be nice if the toy itself had some kind of compartment on the back to carry a couple of the books...also because the books don't really "lock" into place on the front of the machine, so if your child picks it up to carry it, the book may fall off.
But, all that aside, the toy is very kid-friendly, even if they can't read yet. If you pass the pen over a word, it reads it to you. I showed my Kindergartener how to use the toy, and in a few minutes, she was switching books and cartridges on her own.
I think it is a fine educational toy. I recommend it to anyone.
