| susieq112's Full Review: Leapfrog Learn Along Leap |
When we first started out with my son I was drawn to LeapFrog toys. We wanted to try all of them out and I really enjoyed the fact that they tried to put in educational information everywhere possible. Since then my thoughts on some LeapFrog products have been less than stellar and many of their toys have disappointed me, but one that I think we got a good amount of use out of was the Learn-Along Leap.
About Learn-Along Leap & Our Experience
The Learn-Along Leap is a great Leap Frog starter toy for the youngest of the youngest. This leap is very simple, colorful, and interesting for young babies. Learn Along Leap is recommended for Birth+ and I think it is best to have him ready when baby arrives.
Leap, essentially is a stuffed animal with a music box inside. He is soft and cuddly, basically like a small stuffed animal. He is wearing a bright red shirt with the letters ABC screen printed on the front and a pair of blue shorts. Leap is a bright green color with large eyes. Leap has a blue link connected to the back of him to make him easy to take along. Batteries are changed in the back and hid by Velcro which holds the back of Leaps shirt shut. A volume control is located back there also with 2 different levels.
We bought my son Learn Along Leap I believe in his first month. He has thoroughly enjoyed the toy. I have listened to the alphabet song so many times I could not count if I wanted to. He's been a very easy toy to take along for shopping and rides in the car. The link on Leaps back is bendable and I can attach him to the carrying handle on our car seat. With this small toy and a few others we have never really purchased a toy specifically for our car seat, weve managed to get along without that just fine.
Weve also used the Learn-Along Leap in my sons crib. I have been leary to leave much of anything in my sons bed, but this little Leap is small enough and easily attaches to the rails on the side, so I do not worry to much about this one. We also put this on the floor with him as he lays on his back kicking and playing.
The button to start the music is easy to press, even for baby, but it doesn't play every time the toy gets bumped either. Up until recently Leap was a favorite toy for my son, now his interest in this toy has began to dwindle (at around 9 months). You can play the toy and he won't pay as much attention as he does, but were not ready to get rid of it yet.
As he went through different stages he played with Leap quite a bit. He could clumsily maneuver him with both arms at a young age and took the ring on his back for well over a month at one point.
Now that my son is 20 months old he could not care less about this toy. The one bad thing about LeapFrog toys is their repetition between toys. The ABC song that is played by this toy is also played by 2 other LeapFrog toys that he received as he grew, the Phonics Bus and the My Own Learning Leap. While the song is great Im sure being inundated with it for nearly 20 months straight by 3 different toys didnt help keep his interest.
The educational value of this toy is unknown. I have not heard my son blurt out the entire alphabet and I don't plan to anytime soon. I certainly recommend this toy based on our use of it. As a small baby this was a great toy to tote around and keep by my sons side. He would grin and laugh at the music again and again. My only pointer is to remember to buy it early and expect it to be one of the first toys that hits the bottom of the toy box.
