Pros: Great for road trips, or airplanes
Cons: Only holds 4 cartridges, hard to get cartridges out of compartments
The Bottom Line: Holds system and 4 book sets for on the go fun, but isn't necessary. Seems cheaply designed

| savagefamily's Full Review: Leappad Backpack by Leapfrog |
My mother-in-law got the Leap Pad system for my 4 year old son, and got this bag with it for free! I was excited at first, because EVERYTHING in our house gets lost. But then we started to actually use this case.
It's made of polyester, and has a big compartment that fits the Leap Pad itself in it perfectly. There is a smaller pocket to keep the books in. And there is a mesh pocket on the front with four compartments. These are meant to put the cartridges in, that come with each book.
The problems I encountered were that the compartments have a stretchy top to them, so you really have to stretch them to get the cartridges in and out. This was hard for my son to do on his own. It also only fits 4 book sets at a time. So while it's great for traveling with, it's not practical for storing all your titles in. And I'm not sure if mine's defective or what, but it doesn't fit the cartridge in like the other ones. I end up sliding it in sideways. But then it just slides back out again.
It does have adjustable straps on the back, and functions as a backpack, but we found it bulky and just too large. And when it's full of games, it bulges, and it pretty heavy for a 3-6 year old. Most of the titles are geared towards this age group, even though it says up to age 8.
The stitching on the case itself is also coming unraveled in one corner, and the case is only 6 months old. We don't even use it that much.
For a free gift, I'm not complaining much. We went on a long drive and a plane trip with it, and it worked great. It has a headphone jack in it, so he used the airline headphones while we flew. This way, he didn't bother anyone.
But, I would not pay the $14.99 I've seen it retail for at my local stores. It is a case that fits it well, but there's really no cushioning or anything. So any case would work just as well. And I'd like it better as a hand-held case, since I end up carrying it anyway. I can't fit in that little backpack!
