I find that the younger kids (maybe 2) will get more mileage out of "automated" toys, but that "older" (3 1/2 and above) ones like real books, blocks, musical instruments, etc. and quickly burn out on the battery-operated ones. I like what this one tries to teach, though. I have one little guy (aged 27 mos) who sings on key and loves to play my guitar. I'll get to "notes" and such eventually. As with language, he seems to learn the basics without coaching (and without knowing what he's doing).

Good review!
