phungus's Full Review: Chessmaster 8000 for Windows
I bought Chessmaster 8000 with the intentions of using it to improve my game. Sure, I can play chess online or download some free generic chess games, but if you really want to learn how to play like a pro, or just get better, then you should invest in one of these Chessmaster games.
There is a very good reason why they sell millions of these games - they are simply the best chess games you can buy.
Chessmaster 8000 features really well done graphics, although I still prefer to use the 2d chess board. It has a bunch of boards and pieces with the 3d perspective, but I always found them slightly difficult to see where your pieces are. Even though the boards and pieces are beautifully rendered, they just don't work for me.
This game can help improve your own playing ability by offering strategies and suggestions. For example, at any point in the game you can ask it for advice, and then tell it how many seconds it has to think, and it will give you an analysis of what to do for the next several moves, as well as tell you the benefits and sacrifices of doing so.
Chessmaster 8000 has plenty of level selections, so you won't get beaten every time you play. It also features a database of famous games that you can watch being played and see how the pros do it. It also features a kid's section with cartoonish type pieces, and is great for getting younger people interested in Chess.
Chess is a somewhat simple game that is rarely ever the same game twice. It makes you use strategy and think ahead, as well as learn how to be aggressive without leaving yourself too open. A lot of people say the game of Chess is like the game of life. In a way, it is.
