We got this toy as a gift for our six month old baby. It has lots of great features but, at the time, I think it almost has too many for baby to sort out. Now that baby is eight months old, she definitely enjoys it a lot more.
WHAT YOU GET - FEATURES
This toy is a small stuffed animal shaped like a firefly. It has cute eyes and green cord antenna. This is an educational toy so the manufacturer packed an amazing amount of additional features into the critter.
The wings crinkle with a paper noise when baby squeezes them.
There is a little red teether on a string that fits into a pocket on the toy.
There is a little mirror tucked under a flap on one wing.
There is a little fuzzy red bump on another wing.
There is a nice square shaped clip that allows the toy to clip onto stroller straps or links to another toy.
There are some plastic circles that baby can grasp and clink together.
OUR EXPERIENCE WHEN BABY WAS SIX MONTHS
At first, when baby was six months old, she would play with only one feature at a time. She loved the little red teether and it was small enough for her to hold in her mouth if we put it in her hands. She was also fascinated with the firefly's eyes although they don't actually crinkle, squeak or move.
If I put this toy in baby's crib or next to her on the floor, she didn't really pick it up by herself. It worked better if she sat in my lap and we explored just one feature of the toy at a time, such as the squeaker or the mirror. After a few minutes she was ready to move onto something else. I think the toy was either too complicated for her at six months or it overstimulated her. Of course, at six months, my baby was fascinated by the tags on a washcloth or a tupperware bowl cover so she did prefer the simple things in life.
OUR EXPERIENCE WHEN BABY IS EIGHT MONTHS OLD
Baby is now eight months old and she enjoys this toy much more. We keep it in the diaper bag and clip it to the stroller when we are out and about. She has a longer attention span now and will play with the toy for longer periods and more independently. She also enjoys examining the different features and textures. The amount of features makes this toy last longer during playtime because there is more to do.
RECOMMENDATION
I like this toy and it has lasted longer than some of our other, similar toys. Baby definitely likes it more at eight months than she did at six months.
