I stumbled across this product online and thought: Oh, what a great idea! My 2-month-old daughter hates tummy time. She's only content for a minute or two. She immediately drools, most of the time spits up, and then cries until I roll her over.
With the whole Back to Sleep campaign to prevent SIDS, children need tummy time everyday because it is important for motor development.
I couldn't wait for this to come in that mail! I put her on it as soon as it got here. No assembly necessary, just take it out of the box and place the spinning platform on the mat!
Viola! She picked her head up and looked around. She still drools, but doesn't cry or spit up (as much).
But as she discovered the toys and "crinkles" and pretty colors on the mat, I discovered that it's kind of a stupid idea! The mat encourages her to look down! The whole point is for her to pick her head up in order to strengthen her neck muscles.
We've only had it about a week, and she can already spin herself about 90 degrees. I don't know if that's the best idea either. Do children develop correctly if they use their muscles to go in a circle?
And my daughter wants to go forward, not in a circle! Most of the time she grabs at the edge of the mat and tries to pull herself forward only to find that she pulls the mat up and doesn't go anywhere.
I found this cheapest on circuit city's website. Shipping was free too! But I had to pay tax.
