Pros: Large portions, great service, half bottles of wine, great selection.
Cons: Small dessert menu, side items need a little work.
The Bottom Line: One of the better chain restaurants in Boston. Definately earned it's reputation for the best Chowder.

| sugarface2525's Full Review: Legal Sea Foods Cafe and Oyster Bar |
Legal Seafoods, a restaurant I had always wanted to go to because my ex-husband was against going to chains, was surprisingly scrumptious! Not the best seafood you can find in Massachusetts, but a lot better than what I was expecting.
Appetizers
There are many to choose from. Im a huge chowda lover so I had to start off with Legal Seafoods New England Clam Chowder. There is a good reason why they win the Chowder cook off every single year in Newport. Creamy, thick, chunky. Everything you expect form a good cup of chowder.
My friend got the lobster ravioli and not only was the portion more than you would expect from an appetizer, the lobster was sweet and plentiful inside the ravioli.
Oysters, quahogs, calamari, and shrimp cocktail are some other appetizer options on the menu.
Main Courses
You can get all sorts of tasty dishes at Legals. Cajun catfish, lobster, haddock
its all there. There are even chicken dishes for your friends who arent seafood lovahs.
I chose the Scallops as many items on the menu featured these, I found it hard to pass. I have to say I was impressed with how BIG they were. Sweet, meaty and juicy. The baked potatoe on the side was a little overcooked and dry and the side of broccoli seemed more like a side of butter with a few stems of broccoli, but the main dish was perfect.
My friend ordered steak and shrimp. This entrée was enormous and came with two sides as well. She ordered fries and broccoli. Her broccoli was also a butter soup, but the fries were crisp and lightly seasoned to perfection.
Wines
I felt the need to mention their wine selection. There is a HUGE list to choose from. It made me feel bad for the servers who have to memorize them all. Legals offers half bottles of wine as well as full which is great if you only want one or two glasses and dont want to purchase a whole bottle of wine. Cheaper too.
Dessert
No seafood in this part of the menu, but I have to say that the small selection was a little disappointing. Boston Cream Pie, Key Lime Pie and a dish of ice cream. They should throw some cheesecake and some sort of sundae to mix it up. With their large selection of menu items, I was disappointed with their dessert offereings. My friend and I split the Boston Cream Pie. It tasted like it came from the Sara Lee box and was frozen in the middle. They really need to put some work in this area of their menu.
The menu was a little pricey ($27 average for an entrée), but it is seafood so you have to expect to be paying a little more. Our server was friendly and attentive, refilling water without being asked and bringing more bread without being asked as well. The timing of appetizer, entrée and dessert was perfect. I would still go to Hyannis for a seafood fix over Legals, but for a chain, it exceeded my expectations.
