midwestrocker's Full Review: The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past for Game B...
You did see my review title didn't you? Well that's not just my opinion. Entertainment Weekly and G4 also had "A Link To The Past" at the top of their list. But what do those lists really say anyways? Play the Game and you'll see.
Many of you have probably played "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time," the second best game of all time, or one of the other Zelda games. You need to know, that only two Zelda games came before this one, both on NES. In case you didn't know, this is a 'reissue,' otherwise known as "sucking as much money as possible from a great game." The first two games were pale in comparison to this one and everything after this was pretty much just a slightly tweaked version of "ALTTP." Many of the enemies from this game occur in "Ocarina." That's just the beginning of the similarities.
Before you're able to flow back and forth between the old world and the new world in Ocarina (Both almost identical), you must finish three dungeons. Then you will finish seven more before you complete the game.
Before you're able to flow back and forth between the Light world and the Dark world in ALTTP (Both almost identical), you must complete three dungeons. Then you will complete seven more before you finish the game.
Hopefully you can see, that if you like ANY Zelda game, you MUST play ALTTP. But just that it created an entire series of wonderful games isn't the only reason to like it.
This is the story of ALTTP. Link wakes up in the morning having had a dream that princess Zelda was calling out for his help. He wakes up, heads to the castle and rescues her. Then he must recieve three pendants before he can move on to the Dark world (The evil duplicate of the light world that has been opened by Agahnim) and begin sealing it up.
There are so many twist and turns in the game as well, and so many things to do on the side that will benefit you in the main game. There are people that you talk to and learn about and there are people that you help out and get a little something in return. The side story's are almost as fun as the main story.
Once you get started, you'll be plunged into your own little Zelda universe. You literally can't stop playing. With how well everything fits together, and how great and detailed the story is, it's almost like a real world. A real world that is a wonderful escape from our own.
