Accessory add on sets are a great way to increase the replay value of a set or theme or an inexpensive way to replace lost or damaged pieces. Before you get all excited about this set, know this, it was released in 1998 so it's almost ten years old. That means that it is going to be pretty hard to find. There is a total of 27 pieces to this set and when it was in production it had a suggested retail price of $3.99. These days you can expect to pay upwards of six dollars a piece for this set providing you can find it in its original packaging. Unscrupulous auction sellers will gather up a handful of elements, toss them in a bag and tell you that it is "the set" but they lost the box, don't fall for that old trick.

If you are going on an adventure you are going to need tools and this accessory set has some nice offerings. You can never have too many magnifying glasses but you only get one with this set. Likewise there is only one movie camera, faux wooden crate, backpack and sexton. The binoculars are the smallest item in this set and will probably be the first thing to show up missing. I am thoroughly convinced that Lego designers are obsessed with hats: there are three different versions in this set plus the Egyptian headdress.
Thankfully they didn't go overboard with the animals in this set; a red snake, black snake and two black scorpions are all you get but to me that seems pretty fair when you look at what else the set has to offer. The usually pieces are the four pegged round turrets, why they wasted two pieces on these is beyond me. The gray hinged piece can be useful but unless you have a companion piece for it or plan on using the clear windscreen with it, chances are it is going to end up getting lost or tossed in with other Lego pieces that never see the light of day.
By far the coolest pieces in this set are the stenciled ones and even though there are only four of them, they are things that can help to add detail to a scene. The hieroglyphic 4 x1 works great with the Egyptian set but can be used with any of the Adventure themed sets. You also get a film cartridge tile, map piece and smaller hieroglyph. One thing that sucks about this accessory set is there are only two faceted gems and both of them are red. I dont know which is harder to collect, the gold coins or these very interesting looking gems.
If you were to go through a brick vendor like Baylit and buy all the pieces in this set you would be spending about ten to twelve dollars depending on the demand at the time of the order. Seeing as how this sold for about four dollars when it was released, you can see that like automobiles, the elements are worth more when sold individually. This is a nice set to get if you can find it for a fair price and it is the true original set, not something that someone threw together from pieces that they no longer wanted or needed.
The Bottom Line
When it comes to things like Lego and Playmobil, the accessories can sometimes make or break a set. Having some cool add on sets like this will increase the replay value of what you have and let you expand things or add detail to them. Needless to say, the pieces in this set are small and should never be left out around younger kids because they are all potential choking hazards. I found this set on eBay and grabbed it up for about the same selling price as when it was on the market. I made sure that the seller was listing a brand new set and even though there was some damage to the package, everything inside it was in mint condition.
Buying accessory sets might seem like a waste of money because you are only getting a handful of elements but it's what you choose to do with them that makes the real difference. Using your imagination to think up new scenes and stories is what keeps me completely addicted to Lego.
As always, thanks for the visit
