| Freak369's Full Review: Lego Lego® Holiday Minifigure Gift Wrap and T... |
We don't celebrate Christmas like most other people; on Christmas Eve we open one present and that's it. Almost everything else is left for after December 25th. The brood take their Christmas cash and hit the mall and buy what they want and they are well trained in spotting bargains and hitting the sale sections. Why pay $40.00 for something that is going to be $20.00 a day later? Well, this year I stepped things up a bit and had two packages for everyone, one regular item and one Lego item. These things weren't hard to spot under the tree, they were all wrapped with the same type of paper. I spotted the Lego gift wrap at the website a few months before Christmas, initially I laughed and wondered, "what fool would pay three dollars for that? I got my answer about a month later when I decided to order some for the Lego presents. My humor almost backfired on me, Lego was a tad bit slow in shipping things this year and the paper and a few last minute sets almost didn't arrive on time.
Lego Santa & Lego Tree Themed Wrapping Paper & Gift Tags
The design on the wrapping paper is nice; it features a Lego Santa and Lego styled trees. There are tiny little snowballs that dot the background of the design and that adds a lot of holiday flair to the paper. You also get two gift tags that match the Santa and tree on the wrapping paper. The only thing that I don't like about the paper is that it arrived folded and getting the creases out of it can be a pain. The sheets are about forty inches wide and thirty inches high but that's a ballpark estimate, I didn't get to measure the sheets because the arrived right before Christmas and I needed to get things wrapped. The paper is of good quality but you are paying a premium price for two sheets and two gift tags. I could have gotten a hell of a lot more for my money if I would have bought the stuff at the grocery store or Wal-Mart but sometimes you have to suck it up and pay extra for a specialty item like this.
On a side note, contrary to what some websites are saying about this product, it does not come with any miniature figures; one site I saw this listed at claimed that it came with two mini Santa figures and two Lego styled trees. Unless the person is adding that to the sale lot as an extra perk, they do not come with it if you are buying it from the Lego website or ordering it through the Lego Magazine. If you are considering ordering the gift wrap from a site other than Lego make sure you aren't going to get ripped off. If they are selling it for more than $3.00 and saying that it comes with figures, chances are they aren't selling you the official product or you are going to get ripped off.
I didn't have any problems using this wrapping paper and it worked great whether I was wrapping small or large items. The magic tape was the best pick to use with the paper because if I needed to remove it or unwrap something to check a box I could without having it rip the paper. I used the tags on the boxes and they looked great but I used some elastic string to make a loop and stick it around the bow [bows not included]. I used the paper to wrap gifts for my Lego loving friends and as soon as they saw the boxes they knew what they were getting.
When I purchased the paper from the Lego World Shop it was selling for $2.99 a pack, the prices dropped on it right after Christmas and I added a few of them to a recent order to have them for next year. Even though the paper and tags are of good quality, you are paying a lot for them but as I said, sometimes you have to make concessions and pay a little extra for cool things. Since this is a seasonal item there is a very good chance that the Lego website wont carry it year round. If you are interested in this product and want to stock up on it, now is the time to do it.
The Bottom Line
Lego seems to be branching out into so many different areas that it is hard to keep up with all that they are offering. The Lego Santa Bags are nice for larger items or if you have a ton of smaller sets that you want to give as a gift. While I do love the design on the paper and the matching gift tags, I really wish that there wasn't a hard crease in it because it can making wrapping something hard and if the crease is really pressed into it, it makes the whole package look tacky. If you are a Lego fanatic and want to have some cool wrapping paper for gifts then this is a great investment but it is a seasonal type item so using it for birthdays or other holidays is sort of out of the question.
As always, thanks for the visit
