Pros:Great figure, flesh tone, awesome detail.
Cons:Overpriced by some, questionable appearance for younger kids.
The Bottom Line: Hands down one of the best female Lego mini figures of all time.

One of the most coveted and sought after mini figures from the Star Wars Lego series isn't that of Darth Vader or Han Solo frozen in carbonite. No, it's a female figure found only in one set [and was also made in a key chain format]. Slave Leia is an incredible Lego mini figure and something that makes men smirk away when they see it. Some of them are grinning because it takes them back to when they first saw the scene in the Star Wars film where she was chained up, others are sporting a smile because they have a hot Lego figure. Let's just go with the first scenario to be on the safe side.

So what makes this figure so awesome? Oh, sit down and let me tell you. First off, I am a chick and I am looking at this from a chick perspective. It has a unique look to it, there are no other females that have this torso or leg stenciling. Now, stick with me here. There are two versions of this figure; one with flesh coloring and one with yellow. Personally, the yellow one is horrible. It totally kills any type of … what's the word I am looking for here … nuance of the mini figure. Designers needed to capture her character without getting soccer moms in an uproar but they needed to try and get it as close as possible. Honestly, fifteen or twenty years ago a figure like this would have never made it into a Lego set. Everything is covered up so it's not like it is a nude figure [although there are customized – and very naughty versions – of Slave Leia around] but even so, it is a little risqué for the world of Lego.

Jabba's Sail Barge [also called Jabba's Barge by some] is a fairly large set so buying it just to get the figure is a little crazy unless you manage to get it for a great price and can make use of the other pieces. In addition to Slave Leia you also get Luke Skywalker, Jabba The Hutt, Han Solo, Lando, Boba Fett, R2-D2 and a Gamorrean Guard. Considering the set has almost 800 pieces, the suggested retail price of about seventy dollars isn't unwarranted but if you shop around you can find it for less although you may have to setting for a box that is ripped or loose contents instead of bagged.

Now, an interesting twist to this is that you can get another version of Leia in her slave outfit in Jabba's Palace [4480] but it is not as nice as the one in Jabba's Sail Barge. The stenciled details are the same, the hair is identical and the facial expression is dead on. The only difference is that the 4480 version has her with typical Lego mini figure yellow skin instead of the flesh tone used in Jabba's Sail Barge. If you are thinking that getting the Leia figure from Jabba's Palace and morphing it into a flesh tone figure, think again. The yellow is almost impossible to cover up and even if you did have the steady hand to do so you would have to make multiple passes and eventually you would end up getting paint or ink on the stenciled clothing.

What is this figure worth? In mint condition it is worth about seven to ten dollars but I have seen it selling for a lot more than that at toy conventions and at reseller websites. Since the flesh tone Leia is only in one set [and a large set] people can pretty much dictate the selling price. Resellers will buy sets or bulk miscellaneous lots of elements and resell them. You never know the quality of the piece until you get it. Some are selling it with a basic gray plastic chain, others are selling just the figure. That's why you have to read the details and not just look at the picture.

Online auctions can be a great place to get individual mini figures but you have to be careful that you aren’t getting ripped off, sold a customized [not authentic original] piece or a modified key chain. Personally I wouldn’t pay more than five or six dollars for one of these if I needed an extra. There are only so many ways that you can utilize aclad slave girl in a Lego scene. I'm creative but I'm not that creative!
