Dumbbells? Machines? Gyms? Nah, get Leslie's DVD and use the included stretch band!
Written: Feb 10 '08 (Updated Feb 10 '08)
Pros:Includes stretch band, adjustable workout, great for beginners, no impact
Cons:Too easy for avid exercisers, light on the ab toning
The Bottom Line: This is a very simple, effective toning workout which will get beginners started on their way to firmer muscles. Use a heavier resistance band to make the workout harder.
Plot Details: This opinion reveals everything about the movie's plot.
I am a fan of Leslie's Sansone's style of exercise and have many of her workouts. Leslie Sansone - Walk Slim: Fast Firming is not a walking workout. It is a concentrated firming one using an included stretch band. It is a wonderful starter workout for those wanting to tone up but not sure where to start.
I bought the DVD because I have been sick and unable to exercise and wanted something to "restart" my regiment that didn't tax me too much. This workout is perfect for what I need right now.
About the Workout
This DVD includes a pink stretchy band. You can buy heavier resistance bands as you get stronger.
The DVD is about 40 minutes long.
You will need a mat because there are a few sitting and laying exercised. I was caught off guard by that so now I have my mat ready.
The Set
Leslie is alone on a simple wood floor. You can see the cameras and it is obvious she is in a studio. She is alone, wearing a white tank top and black workout pants. The set is the simplest I ever saw but it makes no difference.
The Workout
After a four minute warm up of mostly her standard walking steps, you begin to work each part of the body.
The upper body work is really quite good. Using the stretch band, you do curls, triceps work, some shoulder and back work and chest work. You can make the workout as easy or tough as you want by holding the stretch band lower or higher. The lower you hold the band, the tougher it is to pull and the harder the work.
You will then work the lower body. Most of the exercises are knee bends with the band for stability and a bit of resistance. You can control the intensity by how far you lower your knee when you do the exercises.
You then work your back and core. For this, you will need a mat. You will do this work sitting up and laying down. Next is stretching laying on the mat with the band. It feels great. You stretch and loosen your muscles and feel stronger and longer. You also sneak in some inner thigh work.
Lastly is a four minute cool down which is really just a series of stretches without the band.
Who This DVD is For
This workout is a great beginner's workout for anyone, any age, who wants to start to firm their body without expensive equipment. This DVD works all the muscles, although it is a bit light on the abs. It is an adjustable workout so, when you first start, you can take it easy and, as you get stronger, simply adjust how long the band is by holding it further down the shaft. Believe me, you WILL feel it if you stick to it and you will see results. This is not for advanced or already very fit people.
Buying Info
This DVD is available anywhere that Leslie's workouts are. It comes in a three DVD set as well as alone. The great thing is that the stretch band is included so you need nothing else to do the workout. The price varies. I think I paid about $15.00 for mine and the band alone is worth about $7.00. I have ordered heavier resistance bands to fire up this workout and keep getting stronger.
Conclusion
Leslie Sansone has an infectious personality and makes you feel like she is talking right to you. She isn't a 20 year old ripped model but a slightly older, average sized woman who knows how hard staying in shape is. I actually enjoy her banter. There is music in the background but it is generic and unnecessary.
This is not for advanced or even intermediate exercisers who are toned already. This is a great starter DVD for those who need to go slow or, for people like me who are restarting from an illness or injury. I was very impressed with the simplicity of the workout yet I felt it the next day. 4 stars.
