I very much agree with you, which is why I'm doing this research. Other than societal obligation, my family is so tiny. I've also unfortunately got some other issues thrown into the mix as well, so I think a wedding is out of the question for me! Anyway, I enjoyed your insight and viewpoints! :)

Eloping is where it's at, Javelina (Reply to this comment)

Excuse me for disclosing my sociological bias, but weddings costing low-to-mid five figures are simply a cave-in to second-rate Cinderella stories. Guys (including me) go along with it because it's "her dream" but don't ask me what I think of the source of those fantasies. That fairy tale and all its Harlequin progeny are the most misleading and potentially marriage-destroying things a woman or man can encase in their respective skulls, IMO. False expectations, disappointments, the resulting distrust and resentment - it isn't worth it.
OK, so I've editorialized long enough. Now for the fun stuff -
So, J - I know something's cookin'! That good-lookin' lady in the beach picture is off the market, huh?
Go to Vegas, bay-bee. Spend those bucks on a quick, fun wedding, good time and a house down payment (or camping tent down payment - whatever). Memories are much better when made after the wedding, trust me.
