Pros: Great quality printout when it works, cheap
Cons: Not Mac compatible without a Mark XL network card, slow, unreliable feeding, expensive cartridges
The Bottom Line: Forget it. Don't buy it. There are so many others that would work far better.

| justasec's Full Review: Lexmark Optra R+ Laser Printer |
I've had this printer for years now and it's always been a lousy printer. I had it rebuilt and that was a mistake. It cost more than it was worth, which was something I found out later. Like a bad marriage I stuck it out far too long but now I'm done with it.
Diamondfine Toner Only!
This is a 1200 dpi printer that has very good graphical output if you use OEM diamond fine toner cartridges. These have always been horrendously expensive, even on Ebay. I've gone though several aftermarket and refills and none of them have come close to creating the same output.
Slow processor
The main problem for graphics professionals is that even with the memory upgraded to the maximum, with cheap to buy simms, it's still slow as hell. The processor is a pig and sometimes it loses it's place and just doesn't print at all.
Picky feeding
The Optra R is a picky feeder, especially if you use heavier weight paper or labels. There is a setting in the LCD menu that allows for this but I found it doesn't make any difference.
This printer is not compatible with Mac unless you have a Mark XL ethernet network card. If you buy from a retailer or Lexmark it will cost you $300. I got mine for $50 on Ebay but you lose a lot of features bypassing the printer this way. It's just not made to work with anything but PCs.
