Pros: Cost of use. Speed of Printing.

The Bottom Line: This machine is well below my standards for quality printing. It performs many functions, but only does them "so-so."

| bluedot-79's Full Review: Lexmark X73 All-In-One InkJet Printer |
I bought the Lexmark X73 all-in-one ink-jet Printer/Copier/Scanner/Fax machine when it first came out, about 2 years ago. I really liked the idea of having an all-in-one machine, and I felt the price was pretty reasonable. Although it has held up pretty well, it has not dazzled me with any of its functions. Plus, because it is a very large machine, it doesn't fit on my desk very well.
The Basics:
--Prints up to 9 pages per minute (in black) and up to 5 pages per minute (in color)
--Copies up to 9 copies per minute (in black) and up to 3 copies per minute (in color)
--50-sheet paper tray
--2400 x 1200 dpi
--Photo quality printing
--48 bit color scanning (will scan into fax or e-mail programs)
--8.5x11.5 scanner area (CCD flatbed type)
--Scanner/Copier Resolution: 600 x 1200 dpi
--Full color and/or black copying
--Black ink cartridge: Lexmark 12A1970 ($32.97 at Office Depot)
--Color ink cartridge: Lexmark 15M0120 ($39.88 at Office Depot)
--One Touch Operator Panel to easily perform any of this machines functions
--USB cable is included
What I like:
This machine really will do it all. Its nice to save space in my office by not having four different office machines taking up valuable desk space.
I really like the fact that I can scan directly into PC faxing, e-mailing, or to create a copy with one press of a button. Its a very user-friendly machine.
The printer is an excellent choice for printing text documents. It does print this type of thing very quickly, especially in black and white.
The cost of use is good. The fact that the USB cable is included in the box, which is not the case with most printers, saves a few extra bucks at the checkout. Plus, I also like the fact that the Lexmark ink replacements cost somewhat less than other brands, such as HP.
What I dont like:
This printer is very noisy (compared to my HP printers at work), and it shakes on my desk while its printing. Its enough to scare my dogs whenever I try to print something (and make me crazy).
While the scanner will do a pretty good job, I would not say that its anywhere near photo-quality. If you plan to use this function with any frequency, you would probably not be happy with this printer.
The printer may be quick for text documents, but if you want to print a nice looking photograph, it could take up to ten minutes for it to print one page. And the only way for it to do a good job on the photograph (i.e. without lines) is to set it on the highest printer setting and use a ton of ink. For some reason, this printer will not printer in "mirror-image" mode.
The box said that the sheet feeder would handle up to 50 pages. Well, not in my case. I practically had to baby this thing in order to keep it from jamming. I literally would only feed one sheet at a time. What a hassle!
Overall Feelings
Basically, this is a purchase that I wish I had not made. At the time, it was a lot cheaper than its HP counterpart, but it lacked the quality that Ive seen in my HP printers at work. The machine has some nice features, but overall is not something I could recommend.
