An excellent toy! My son received this when he was 6 months old. I have never seen a child that young so happy about a toy. He was totally consumed by it until he turned about 1 year old. The ball itself can play music and say words. It has a switch for the choice and if it is on the words the baby just pushes the pictures and hears "bunny", "dog" etc.
The music can be loud but their is an adjustment button. My son very quickly learned how to move the buttons from either the music or words ( with help from grandma).
The one strange thing about it is that it can just be sitting there and it would be really quiet in the house and all of a sudden it would just start playing music! Kind of annoying when you want the house quiet so make sure it is turned off. LOL
I definently think this is a well thought out toy, it will last your child for some time and they will learn to roll it to you as well.
My son even now gets it out of his toy box and plays with it occasionaly.
