kwirges's Full Review: Linksys WRT310N Wireless Router
I recently purchased the LinkSYS WRT310N router as a replacement to an older wireless router. I wasn't previously experiencing any problems, I was merely looking to find something with more range, better looking (with an internal antenna), and built for the future.
Although initial setup was a breeze, performance was not as great as I was hoping for. Signal strength was much improved from my components that were located downstairs from the router (a Nintendo Wii, XBOX 360, and laptop)...however, the quality of the signal seemed worse than my previous router.
After days of tweaking and research I was never able to make my router have a reliable connection with my XBOX 360 - which is the primary user of the router. Upon further reading I found other users who could not get this router to work with XBOX Live as well. Although I could get onto XBOX Live, I could not maintain an uninterupted connection during games such as Call of Duty 4.
Finally, this router requires frequent resets to clear it out (this is well documented on many discussion boards). Additionally, the router gets very hot to the touch - to the point you worry about what it is sitting on.
Overall, I disconnected this router and put my old one back online. This will go into a closet for a few months until I find the patience and time to tweak it more.
