professor_w's Full Review: Linksys WRT350N Wireless Router
The WRT350N is a feature-rich router that has a highly desirable storage link option. Sadly, whoever wrote the "manual" that accompanies the product (in pdf format) doesn't understand how to provide basic setup and access instructions. Further, when you call tech support, you'll most likely get someone who understands English even less than the author of the pdf file instructions.
My question was very basic: How do I access the drive on the storage link from other computers on my network or from the Internet. What could be more simple than that?
I've been working with networks and computers for twenty years, so configuring the router to work with my network didn't take long. However, I couldn't find any instructions to tell me how to access the storage drive on the network once it had been configured. The drive didn't show up as I thought it should. My support person, whose English was very difficult to understand, took five minutes to "research" the question. He then told me that Linksys didn't directly provide instructions, but he gave me a web address for their knowledge base. I said, "You mean Linksys doesn't provide support for accessing the storage link when that's one of the strongest selling points of the router?" The storage link is why I bought the product since my NAS drive on my network has somewhat buggy software and disappears sometimes.
The support person also said he "didn't think" I could access my files from the Internet, although there is an ftp opinion in the software setup. Soooo, until Linksys can hire some people who (1) speak English and (2) know their products, I'm going elsewhere. To say that Linksys doesn't directly support providing instructions about accessing the storage link when that's one of the big selling points of this product is absurd.
