Pros: Strong, fast, reliable connection. Basic and advanced features. Useful manual (CD). Easy setup (browser).
Cons: Setup wizard on CD doesn't work. No ON/OFF button on the unit.
The Bottom Line: This router provides very good coverage and features for users of various levels. It is worth the more expensive price when it doesn't give you trouble in setup and usage.

| okalvin's Full Review: Linksys Wireless-G WRT54GX4 Router |
I know some basic networking but I am no expert especially on wireless technology. My DSL line comes in on the second floor to a PC but I plan to use my new laptop on the first floor mainly. The staff at the networking department of a computer/electronic store recommended 3 models with MIMO technology and wider range. I purchased the Linksys for $139.
The installation CD has a setup wizard but it doesn't seem to work from my wired PC. It keeps complaining that it can't find the router. Actually the router is already working once I connect it between the DSL modem and my wired PC. There are 4 ethernet ports at the back of the router for wired connections. I can go online immediately on the wired PC. To configure the router, I use the browser to access the router address with the default administrator password suggested by the user guide. It works well that way. I am able to enter/change the network ID, enable encryption and access password, and to change the administrator password easily. To turn on the encrytion and access password, just select one of the encrytion methods and input an access password. There are many settings you can play with depends on your broadband connection and needs. There is setup for gaming. Also 3-4 encrytion modes. It can also further secure the access by limiting only specific MAC address (unique identifier on each network card). Can also tell the router to keep the Internet connection always on by providing the DSL username and password. The unit has several LED lights to clearly indicate the status of Internet connection, each Ethernet/wired connection, wirless and power. I just leave most of the settings on automatic hand have sufficient security. Many neighboring wireless work is left wide open with no security, and it is scary.
Then I connect wirelessly through my laptop. The router can do mixed B and G or G only. My laptop can do A/B/G. The router has the SRX and SRX400 technology for even faster speed and broader coverage but it requires wireless adapter with such technology. My laptop doesn't have one like that but I can use the wireless network in full strength (54mps) everywhere. There is no dead spot at all in the two storey building of 1900 sq ft. I think it can go even further.
