sachacrompton's Full Review: Linksys WAP54G (WAP54G-UK) 802.11b/g Wireless Acc...
I had this router for 1-2 years now. Last month I would have said it was a great buy as I never had any problems with it. A neighbour once gave me an old Linksys router saying it was broken, I had a hard time believing a device as simple as a router could break, after all it's just a computer board with no moving parts, it should easily last 10 years. At first I thought maybe they just didn't know how to use it and thought it was broken.
Then after less than 2 years my router stopped working, I asked a friend and he told me it's common for routers to only last 1-2 years.
I can only draw one conclusion from this information: These routers seem to be made with planned obsolescence, so they self destruct shortly after the warranty expires (in about every case, it fails months after the warranty expired).
I have no intentions on buying another one, if this company wants to both steal our money and destroy our planet for their own profit, I think we should all try to avoid their products as much as possible.
I now use a computer for my routing, much cheaper per year than getting a new router each time, and it will keep running for decades.
By the way, even though Linksys would never admit it, strong scientific evidence shows a clear link between radio waves, especially data carrying radio waves, and cancer. We are now at 1 out of every 2 people who get cancer since 2005 (up from 1 out of 33 in 1900 and 1 out of 4 in 1975, the cancer rate is climbing at a terrifying speed). I highly recommend the extra trouble of passing wires rather than using Wifi, it may very well save your life (but if you eat like most americans do, Wifi is the least of your health concerns).
