Pros:Removes lint very well and self-cleans.
Cons:Flimsy plastic, could break very easily.
The Bottom Line: Despite the fact that it’s cheaply constructed, it works so well I’ll buy another if/when I break it.
The Lint Wizard's claim to fame is that it's a lint brush with a self-cleaning feature. By moving the cleaning lever side to side, the lint accumulates in a bin that can be emptied when full. Moving the lever also provides a secondary cleaning surface. Its truly a very simple, clever design.
In fact, the self-cleaning feature is the only material difference I can find between it and any other lint brush that operates with directional fibers for lint removal. For me however, that has proven to be a significant difference.
I often wear dark clothes because I delude myself into thinking they make me look taller and thinner. Recently, a long-haired stray cat came to my home and adopted me. You see the problem. For some reason, the hair looks much better on the cat than it does on me.
Prior to this life-changing event, Id used the sticky lint rollers with tear-off sheets, masking tape, or a traditional fabric lint brush. This was fine for the times Id drop crumbs down my shirt or sweep against a towel while wearing a navy suit. Those days are gone. I needed something more serious. The Lint Wizard sounded perfect.
Like other cloth lint brushes, I just sweep over the affected area in the appropriate direction. With my old one, I cleaned the brush by moving it across fabric in the reverse direction, leaving the debris on the cloth.
Unfortunately, I could easily sweep the wrong way on my clothes, sometimes creating more of a problem than when I began. Often, I didnt have a piece of fabric handy to clean the lint brush. Since lint removal is never a planned, scheduled event for me, Im always in a hurry. Therefore, a sweep in the wrong direction could result in a change of clothes.
With the sticky tear-off roller ones, I often couldnt find the edge to lift up to tear. When I finally got it started, Id tear it off crookedly, grow frustrated, tear off more crookedly, and finally change clothes. Im that dexterity-challenged. Meanwhile, my husband would be downstairs, wondering just how late I was going to be that time.
The Lint Wizard is so much faster because with a couple of flips of the lever I have a fresh surface to clean with. The dual lint removal surfaces are very useful. One flip of the lever exposes the second clean surface. Moving the lever back and forth a couple of times cleans them.
For some reason, this one doesnt seem to deposit lint when I brush the wrong way. It just remains benign until I figure it out. This is good, because I have difficulty seeing the arrows that indicate which direction I should brush, but that could be an age thing. There are many things I dont see as well anymore! Normally, I just run my thumb along the nap and I can feel which way it should go.
I was amazed at how much stuff came out of the collection bin! It would be hard to convince me that my old cloth brush removed as much junk. It certainly takes fewer strokes to get the debris removed.
My only complaint is that its very poorly made of cheap, light-weight plastic. Im perfectly confident that Ill be in a hurry one day, accidentally sling it on the floor and break it. The door that opens to the collection bin seems as though it could snap off and break very easily.
For that reason, I almost gave this three stars. I moved to four stars for two reasons. 1) It performs exactly as stated. Everything they claim is true. They didnt promise it would hold up if it were dropped or handled roughly. I think they should have made it more durable, but I havent broken it yet, and 2) I like it so much that when I break it, (you know I will!), Ill buy another one. I think I have to go with 4 stars when I plan a repeat purchase.
By the way, I tried it on the cat. I thought Id go right to the source of the problem. The cat didnt mind, but it didnt work, and he just looked at me like I was stupid. He does that sometimes.
