| CRXLover88's Full Review: Liquid Glass Polish/Finish |
Liquid Glass has been the ONLY polished I’ve used on my cars since I bought my first Honda CRX back in 1985. I came across an ad for this polish in Car and Driver Magazine. In 1985 this product was very hard to find; only one auto store in Indianapolis sold it, besides ordering it direct by mail order. Nowadays it’s easier to find – most auto parts stores carry it now.
I’ve used Liquid Glass on 5 new cars since my first Honda and the results are glowing (pun intended). It makes the finish appear to be 2 inches thick. The shine is incredible and lasts for over a year between polishing jobs. So even though Liquid Glass is a little pricey, in the long run it’s no more costly than any other polish. Liquid Glass even has a lifetime warranty. Now on to the application --
You MUST prepare the car’s surface first if the finish is in pretty bad shape; i.e., dull, stained, oxidized, or if you’ve recently applied some other type of wax to it. Don’t skip this step or you’ll be very displeased with the end result. Liquid Glass recommends using their pre-cleaner of course, but just about any high-end pre-cleaner will do. Usually I’m able to skip this step, as when I buy a new car I don’t apply anything but Liquid Glass. Note: Wash and dry the car before using the pre-cleaner.
The next step is applying the Liquid Glass polish. It doesn’t take much at all; use it very sparingly. Trust me – if you apply it too heavily your arm will get worn out trying to wipe it off! Apply with a piece of terry cloth towel using a back and forth movement. Don’t apply in circles (you’ll get swirl marks). When the haze forms, wipe it off with a clean towel.
Now here’s the part that sets this polish apart from the rest: After you’ve wiped all the haze off, you need to park your car out in the sun (so be sure you do this project on a sunny day) for a total of four hours! This helps to “cure” the polish onto the paint.
Like I said, I’ve been using this product since 1985. A few weeks ago, I spotted my old 1985 Honda CRX. I knew it was mine because of a few special “options” I added to my car back then that made it very unique. I never had this car rustproofed and neither did the other owner (I asked her). Even though this car is 14 years old, there is not a speck of rust anywhere on this car, which is very unusual for a Honda of that age (and I live in an area where lots of salt is used on the roads in the winter time). I’m hoping the Liquid Glass had a little to do with this.
