| GreenAcres's Full Review: Liquid Glass Polish/Finish |
I've been using Liquid glass for over 8 years on my cars and despite their age, STILL get compliments that they look brand new. I like my cars and I want them to look the best possible- OK, so I obsess over them occasionally...well frequently.
I first saw Liquid Glass at a car show and thought for sure they had just sprayed the "treated side" with a few extra coats of clearcoat. The whole "show" reminded me of a carnival barker. A few months later when I got a car that I didn't want to drive off a cliff, I went to the auto parts store to find the best products to spoil my new baby with. Amongst the plethora of waxes/cleaners/polishes/conditioners, etc., I saw that can of Liquid Glass and the guarantee on the back and remembered the Carnie show from a few months earlier. It was the most expensive, but the guarantee on the back promised 100% money back if not completely satisfied. I decided to give it a try.
Fortunately it was a Friday night when I got the car and the Liquid Glass and had planned to spend Saturday with everyone coming over to see my new car, while I played the part of the proud parent.
I started on the car early Saturday morning. The directions require that all old wax be removed before application, preferably with Liquid glass precleaner. Dawn dish detergent does about the same thing. I washed the car with the Dawn, which easily removed the dealer's spray on hot wax. Then I washed it again just to be sure. I dried the car and made sure all the bugs, tar, etc were off and applied the Liquid Glass.
It was easy to apply and remove and proved to be a fairly fast procedure, BUT multiple coats are suggested and you have to "bake" the car in the sun for atleast 4 hours to allow it to cure. Over the weekend, I ended up applying 5 coats (back to the obsessive thing again...) Which was good because it gave me plenty of time to polish the chrome and agonize of the wheels and talk to the seemingly constant flow of well wishers wanting to see my new car (which was actually 4 years old).
It was TRULY unbelievable. The car almost seemed to "glow"! I had never seen paint look so "deep" and clean! I returned to the dealer where I bought it and parked next to a brand new model and my car looked better! Several people looked at my car before the new one next to it.
Long story short- if you are willing to put in the time, it is well worth it! I've used it on several of my cars since and it is still the best I've found, however it's best if the surface is impecably clean as it magnifies and locks in any stains or scratches.
In the "mixed bag" category...on a darker car it seems to chip easily and leaves white spots- but the chip doesn't get to the paint.
I've also used this on a boat with equally excellent results and on dulled marble tile. It always adds a terriffic "clearcoat".
For those that think it's too expensive (like my father)...the shine is incredible and it lasts a LONG time (I'm only on my second can in 8 years after many, many, many coats on several cars, a boat and around the house!)
If you cherish your car and want a headturning shine, Liquid Glass fulfills the promise!
