I can never decide between GZA or Killah Priest's debuts... (Reply to this comment)

But they've both made me an undying fan of the Wu, even though most of the group's material is very hit-or-miss stuff. With the possible exception of the lackluster production on 'Investigative Reports' (and even then the lyrics are good), there isn't one wack track on either album.

I'm starting to worry about how many times I find myself saying "hey, me too..." when I'm reading your reviews.
I definitely think this was the best solo Wu album, with ...Cuban Linx in tow. Contrary to most fans' opinions, I really liked Tical, also -- but it wasn't anything near as good as the above mentioned two. I didn't really care for Words From the Genius, except for one track, though I have no idea what it was, since it's been more than 5 years since I got rid of the CD.
Always loved the verse from Gold you quoted. However, far and away my favorite is Shadowboxin'.
Awesome review...D

I keep meaning to buy it, but I just never get around to it. My list of "back albums I need to buy" grows daily. If you ever see a homeless guy w/ a huge collection of Rap CDs, just stop by and say "hi." =)

I remember... (Reply to this comment)

...the first time I heard the single, Liquid Swords. It was on some Pay-Per-View rap concert thing that my friend had on tape, and I was blown away. That was easily one of the best singles out that year.
Have you ever heard Words From The Genius? I got it because I had heard Superfreak (before Wu came out) and thought the song was hilarious. It wasn't until a while after Wu came out that I even realized it was the same guy, cause I had retired his tape to the shelf by then.
Great review, as per your norm.
