Pros: None
Cons: Unreliable - More work/much more expensive than just keeping the regular old litter box
The Bottom Line: Catgenie is more trouble than it's worth, it has had two serious breakdowns requiring replacement parts in less than six months they would not take it back.

| kldgbb's Full Review: LitterFree Self Washing Cat Box |
I purchased the full Cat Genie package for $400.00 at the first of this year (2008) and managed to get my three younger cats to use it 90% of the time only after switching to the unscented Sanisolution and going through a big hassle to return and get my money back for the scented ones I still had on hand; however after 4.5 months of use the unit broke down and after an hour on the phone with the tech support, two new parts were sent out and I had to spend several more hours giving the unit a thorough cleaning (it was really vile inside where all the moving parts are) and replacing the parts. Meanwhile, I had to put regular litter boxes out for the cats to use which caused them to be reluctant to start using the Cat Genie again. Now it is barely one month later and the unit is malfunctioning again. Maybe my particular unit is a lemon, but these breakdowns, while covered by the manufacturer warranty, are very inconvenient and I just don't have time to keep messing around with a product that is so unreliable. And again, while it I await parts and find the time to replace the part, the cats have to use regular litter boxes and then they don't want to use the Cat Genie once it is fixed. Plus the instructions say to clean it every six months but after about a month it begins to smell really badly because all the urine and feces do not get all the way washed out during the cleaning cycles. Cleaning the unit also takes a great deal of time and is quite disgusting. Additionally, the Sanisolution cartridges and replacement litter are expensive and the plastic cartridges are not recyclable so they are also wasteful.
