| Airmark1's Full Review: Litter Maid Advanced Deluxe Litter Maid Litter Box |
I believe that the Litter Maid is quite possibly one of the best contraptions that I have bought. Ever sense I had first seen them on infomercials, I wanted one. I waited though, with good reason, for the price to come down, and the versions to improve. It did. They did.
I have version # 3 as far as I know. First they were TOO LOUD, then TOO WEAK, and my version JUST RIGHT. Let me review the one that I own then.
What I like about it.
Where do I start? I had one cat at the time of purchase. The Litter Maid was not a wallet-breaking investment, $99 at my local pet store. I took it out of the box, easily put it together, found a place to set it, plugged it in, filled it with litter, and I was set. Litter Maid says that it might take a few days or so for the cat to get used to the new robotic cat-poop-omatic idea. My cat got right to it. He got used to it in the first few hours. And with a gleam of excitement he jumped around and wiggled as it cleaned itself for the first time. I could see in his eye that it was something special to him. I do recommend perhaps putting about a cup-full of old litter into the new litter. And also, try putting the new Litter Maid in about the same area as the old cat box. Don't confuse the poor kitty. The old, dirty litter helps the cat realize that it is indeed a cat box and not anything else.
I am a pilot, so I am not always home each night. It was easy enough to get neighbors or friends to come over and "take care" of my cat. I always noticed though that the cat box was the chore that went undone most of the time. The Litter Maid took care of that. The people now only had to really worry about feeding my cat, water, and petting. Not the poop-duty. When I got home 2-3 days later, it was easy to dump out.
Now, there are three cats, yes three, in our house. It is a great advantage for one cat to go and do his business, and then 10 or so minutes later the second cat can come and use a cleaned cat box. I do believe that it is MUCH CLEANER and HEALTHIER for the cats compare to a general cat box.
SAND LITTER or PEARLS?
We have used both.
SAND - Much cheaper, some cats prefer (not ours), last a bit longer
PEARLS - Does not track out of the box as much, controls the bad smell a lot better, easier to clean (especially the # 2 stuff out of the tray)
We use the pearls as of now, and I believe that we are going to stick to them. One thing that I have to say bad about the pearls though is that the make a louder noise during cleaning. A POP---POP---POP sound.
