| Kallisti's Full Review: Litter Maid Advanced Deluxe Litter Maid Litter Box |
I bought a Litter Maid Advanced Deluxe Litter Maid Litter Box This thing lasted three months before the engine blew out. Sure, my five feline fecal-matter factories could probably test the torque limits of my Husqvarna Chainsaw, but, in my opinion and experience, the electronics and motor gear in this litter box do not stand up to the intended environment.
A multi-cat toilet should be designed for the same rugged conditions as a good 4x4 vehicle. It should be impervious to particulates and wetness. Acidic wetness at that. Really stinky acidic wetness.
Anyway, the first sign that this was going on the fritz was the way it would scoop itself when the cats weren't anywhere near it. I didn't notice what was going on at first, I just thought my cats were having a little poop party every few hours. Finally I noticed that it was "working" when it didn't have to. Trying to run up unescessary overtime.
Bad robot!
It takes a whole poop-load of D-sized batteries, so when it finally did fry I went out and spent 12 bucks on batteries that I didn't need! It turned out that it wasn't the batteries. It was a more serious fry. A motor malfunction.
I still have to check if I've got a warranty -- it's simply been easier to change a regular litterbox than to deal with the warranty, clean-up and the return/exchange.
Nice while it lasted. Too bad it didn't last long.
