Mega Advanced Deluxe Litter Maid Litter Box???? How about a Mega Waste of Money?
Ok, I'll be fair... at any given time we have between 7 and 18 cats in our house. The average is about 10. Some might say that our problems with the litter box have to do with the number of cats we have. However, I couldn't even get it to work right out of the box. I think the number of cats thing is a ploy to turn your attention away from this horrible product.
We have two of these things. I ordered it from a catalog. My husband said it looked to good to be true, but I had to try it anyway. Yes, my husband still giggles when the story of the litter box comes up in conversation.
When the first one arrived, I was so excited I couldn't contain myself. Imagine... never having to scoop litter again! What a wonderful thought. I ran out to the store for some premium clumping cat litter, set up, and waited.
Along comes my first cat. She hops in and has a little runny diarrhea and hops out. A few minutes go by and the motor starts up, my pulse is raising at the excitement, the rake brushes across the litter and WHAMO! We have messy, runny diarrhea spread all over the litter box.
"Oh Gee!" I think to myself, "That's not what I expected." So I turn off the box, scoop out the litter that's messy, wash off the rake tines, and start it up again. Along comes the second cat. She pees in the box. "Good!" I think, "Now we'll see it work." A few minutes go by and the motor starts up, my pulse is raising again -- I know it's going to work this time, the rake brushes across the litter and WHAMO! When the rake hits the clump, it breaks apart into a million little pieces and we have mini clumps all over the box.
I called the manufacturer -- they said I wasn't using the right litter. So I went out and bought what they suggested. Instead of mini clumps, we got huge mounds in the middle of the box and the rake motor wasn't strong enough to move the clump... so we end up with the rake repeating the rake process forever and ever, because it can't complete a sweep of the box.
After a few more calls to the manufacturer, and a few more brands of kitty littler, Litter Maid says we may have a defective litter box. So they have me return my box for an exchange.
A few weeks later a new box arrives. We have a complete and total repeat of the first box. I call Litter Maid, buy litter fast and furious, and clean the darned rake tines, until... I finally give up. My Mega Advanced Deluxe Litter Maid Litter Box is now sitting in the basement. One of these days I'll return it for a refund... but I'm just so sick of the thing I can't bring myself to even look at it!
