| lllopez's Full Review: Litter Maid Mega Advanced Deluxe Litter Maid Litte... |
The Litter Maid Litter Box is the "Cadillac" of Litter boxes... period. Sound like a pretty strong affirmative statement? Yes, it's meant to be. For years, I have objected to cat ownership on account of the dreaded litter box. Cat litter is messy. Get it wet, and it becomes a sticky pasty substance that dries rock hard on your floors and carpets. No. I did not want any part of that.
One thing I have come to realize with children. Invariably, the time will come when choices you feel you have made are reversed by a mere look in their eye or a softening of your heart, which they are prone to do. Such was the case last October when, out of nowhere, a stray kitten came out of a Lilly of the Valley patch on my property, and proceeded to come up to my daughter who, by the look in her eyes was so fascinated by what would soon become her new passion. After fear set in and a lot of Found leaflets and what if discussions later...we had a cat. Now how do I deal with the litter issue. A trip to a local Pet store was soon to be the answer I was looking for. I had seen the Litter Maid Deluxe on television commercials and had an idea what it was about. Closer inspection proved too interesting to dismiss. Essentially, the cat goes in, uses the litter box...buries it...10 minutes later the automatic rake sifts through the litter, gathers the waste, and dumps it into the sealed plastic container. You do not see it...you do not smell it and the litter box is always neatly raked and dressed. You can get about 5-7 days on 1 plastic waste container and then you simply pop two tabs on the lid, seal the container and out it goes. You replace it and you are good to go. Generally we use one every 5 days and replace the litter as well, and I have yet to smell anything objectionable.
The only problem I have with the Littermaid is that the cat will dig and some Kitty litter will find it's way out of the box. I solved that by placing the unit on a small area rug that keeps 90% of the litter form the floor and water bowls. Small price to pay.In addition, you have to make certain that litter stays off the channel that the automatic rake travels on, which is easy with the brush provided.
The Litter Maid is pricey..however, I used the word advisedly. You must consider the task at hand and what you are willing to pay to minimize your exposure to this most undesirable of chores. We paid $115.00 (on sale), and I have not regretted it past the checkout counter yet.(Check Ebay for deals on new units) We have had it for almost a year and it has performed flawlessly. the cat took to it almost as immediately as we did..
If this thing were stolen, broken or otherwise rendered useless..I would RUN out and get another one. You have to keep supplied with waste containers ($10.00/12) and watch the levels on your litter, then empty and replace the plastic container boxes (approximately every 4 -5 days). Your cat and the Litter Maid do the rest.
