| jadzia66's Full Review: Little People Animal Sounds Farm |
It seems that every Christmas or birthday for my almost 5 year old daughter has a theme. One year we had a Dora the Explorer Christmas, last year was a JoJo's Circus birthday. This was also the case one Christmas when my daughter was a year and a half, that Christmas has come to be known as the Little People Christmas because of the sheer amount of Little People toys she received. The Little People Animal Sounds Farm was one of the many gifts she received that day.
All About the Little People Animal Sounds Farm
The Little People Animal Sounds Farm is a large farm playset that makes many sounds and comes with a few accessories. When first taken out of the box you will notice that the farm isn't exactly put together, however, assembly is very quick and simple. The only thing you will need for assembly is a phillips head screwdriver. The parts that you will find are:
- The barn
- Post
- 2 fences
- A picket fence
- A base extension
- 2 #6 x 1/2" screws
- Weathervane
- Hay Bale
- Cart
- Windmill
- Scarecrow
- Farmer
- 5 animals (cow, horse, sheep, pig, and chicken)
- Sticker label sheet
To assemble your Little People Animal Sounds Farm, you need to turn the base extension over and line up the holes with the pegs on the post. This is where you will put the 2 screws that come with this farm. Once you're done with that, line up the 3 tabs on the end of the base extension with the slots near the pig pen (right side if barn is open and you're facing the inside of it). Just snap the tabs into the slot; you will hear a snapping sound. Next take the picket fence and form it into an "L" shape. Now fit the fence tabs into the slots on the base extension. Next up are the 2 regular fences. These snap onto the post and clamps at each end of the barn. They are also compatible with other fences from the Little People line of toys so that you can combine playsets. Last but not least is the label decoration stickers. According to the instructions it's best if you wash your hands before applying the stickers and to make sure the areas that the stickers will be going on are clean and dry. Then just look at the illustration on the instruction sheet to find out where you put each label sticker.
Now that you're all done assembling your Little People Animal Sounds Farm, all that is left is to put in the batteries. You will find the battery compartment on the bottom of the farm and you will need to use your Phillips screwdriver again to open the compartment. This farm takes 3 AA batteries. Once the batteries are in you will now be able to hear all the sounds it makes:
- Press on the pig in the pig pen and you will hear him say "oink"
- Open the cow stall door to hear the cow say "moo"
- Open the horse stall door to hear the horse say "neigh"
- Flip the chicken nest to hear her "cluck"
- Press down on the floor in front of the door to hear a segment of the songs "A Farmer in the Dell" and "Old MacDonald Had a Farm"
There are many cute features to the Little People Animal Sounds Farm, such as a vegetable garden on the base extension. To see all the veggies that Farmer Jed is growing, just spin the little wheel. There is a second floor to the barn and that is where Farmer Jed's bedroom is. You will find a blue bed with a lever. Put Farmer Jed into his bed and flip the lever and watch him go flying out the window! Other details, such as molded in tools in the bedroom and molded in corn near the pig pen complete the whole farm decor.
In the garden you will find a round indent and on the roof you will find 2 more. These are for the scarecrow, windmill, and rooster weathervane that come included with this farm. These 3 pieces are interchangeable so your child can place them where ever they want. The last thing that is included with the this farm is a bale of hay and a blue cart on wheels. The hay fits into the cart and the cart fits onto the back of the horse so the horse can pull the cart.
The Little People Animal Sounds Farm is quite large but not too large. When it's completely open, it measures in at around 33 inches long while it's about 19 1/2 inches long when closed and it's about 11 1/2 inches high.
Why I Recommend the Little People Animal Sounds Farm
My daughter has enjoyed her Little People playsets immensley they past few years but unfortunately she's beginning to outgrow them. She doesn't know it but I'll be putting them up shortly before her birthday to make room for the Fisher Price Sweet Streets playsets she'll be receiving. In fact, I may have to wait to put them up until the night before her party! The only 2 sets I plan to keep out for her are the Little People Airport and the Lil' Kingdom Castle because those sets are her most recent ones so she's had less time to play with them unlike her other sets.
Courtney has just adored her Little People Animal Sounds Farm! She loves animals, as most kids do, and has had so much fun pretending that she's on a farm. She imitates all the noises the animals makes and helps Farmer Jed tend to his daily chores. She especially loves the music made when you press the floor by the barn door and will sing a long every time. She's had hours and hours of imaginitive play with this set!
I also love this playset. It's bright and colorful and easy to wipe off when it gets dirty. There are a couple of things I would have liked to see though. One of them is that not many animals are included. Just 5 animals and 1 farmer. This was remedied quite easily by buying the Discovering Animals at the Farm set and the Little People Baby Farm Animals set. These were all bought at the same time the farm was so when all 3 were out of their boxes and put together it made for quite an impressive farm set! However, that certainly added to the overall cost and since the farm costs quite a bit to begin with it wouldn't have killed Fisher Price to add a few more animals.
Another thing I would have liked to see besides more animals was more accessories. You won't find a tractor with the Little People Animals Sounds Farm. I mean, what farm doesn't have a tractor? You have to buy the Discovering Animals at the Farm set in order to get a tractor. This was obviously done on purpose by Fisher Price to make more money because all 3 sets together cost about 50.00. It just seemed sneaky to me and over the years I've come to recognize that all toy companies do this, not just Fisher Price.
Overall, we've been very happy with our Little People Animal Sounds Farm and it will be sad to see it put up into storage because it signifies just how much my little girl is growing. She's enjoyed it for the past 4 years and I hope that she'll have as much fun playing with the Sweet Streets sets she'll be getting for her birthday as she has with her Little People sets.
