| bops_mom's Full Review: Little People Animal Sounds Farm |
Last Christmas my then almost three year old son, Brandon, received the Fisher Price Little People Animal Sounds Farm from his grandparents. Opening the toy up and starting the play time right away showed that this is one of those toys that adults seem to play with just as much - if not more than - the child it was intended for.
About the Toy
The Little People Animal Sounds Farm is another great play set made by Fisher Price. If you've read my other Fisher Price Little People Toy reviews, then you already know I'm a huge fan. I must admit that the Little People Animal Sounds Farm is by far my favorite Little People play set.... Whaddya mean it's for my son?! hee hee
The Little People Animal Sounds Farm is for ages 18 months - 5 years according to Fisher Price. I beg to differ as we had 50-somethings playing with it on Christmas Day. I strongly feel the Little People Animal Sounds Farm is for children of all ages!
We, I mean, my son, got his as a gift, but the going price for the Little People Animal Sounds Farm at www.toysrus.com is $29.99 - and worth every penny, in my opinion!
The Little People Animal Sounds Farm comes with several different pieces. They are:
~ The Farm itself
~ The little garden piece which attaches to the side of the Farm
~ The white fence which goes along the garden piece
~ A scarecrow which fits into place on the garden
~ A horse
~ A pig
~ A cow
~ A chicken
~ A sheep
~ Farmer Jed
~ A cart which the horse can attach to and "pull" along
~ A barrel of hay
~ A bag of feed
~ A plastic rooster weathervane (to go atop the farm)
~ A windmill (to also go atop the farm)
Assembly is easy enough. The farm is all in one piece, so we just needed to attach the garden area. I was too afraid to try and do it myself; I mean, I did try and felt like I was going to break it. My younger brother didn't have that fear and he attached it without any problem. The only other thing to place on the farm are the stickers which come with it. Unfortunately, the stickers for my son's farm were lost in the Christmas shuffle, so our farm is picture free.
Since this is the Animal Sounds Farm, there are noises that the farm makes; in order to make these sounds, the Little People Animal Sounds Farm needs to have 3 AA batteries placed inside.
The sounds you'll hear coming from the Little People Animal Sounds Farm are:
~ "Baa" - when the sheep is placed in his place on the farm
~ "Neighhh" - when the horse's stall door is opened
~ "Bock, Bock" - when the chicken is placed on her nest
~ "Moo" - when the cow's stall door is opened
~ "Oink, Oink" - when the pig sits in his pile of mud
~ And when the large square, just inside the barn door is pushed, you hear one of several songs play. You will either hear "Old Mac Donald" or "The Farmer in the Dell".
What's to like and dislike?
My son, Brandon, adores his Little People Animal Sounds Farm. He is a huge lover of animals and gets a real kick out of playing with his Little People Animals and hearing their sounds. And what's possibly even more fun than having an animal make it's own sound, is having it make the sound of another animal. Such as setting the pig on the chickens nest to hear the "Cluck Cluck". I guess you have to be three.
Brandon also enjoys hooking the horse up to the wagon and having him pull things along. But, perhaps the most enjoyable thing for Brandon is placing poor Farmer Jed on his bed (which is on the second story of the barn) and then using the blue lever that makes the bed lift up thus, forcing Farmer Jed to fly out of bed, then out window of the barn and across whatever room the Little People Animal Sounds Farm happens to be in at the moment. As a parent, I'm not sure why Fisher Price added this feature, but Brandon thinks it is hilarious.
Personally, I find the Little People Animal Sounds Farm to be darling! The details are amazing. Like the pig, he lives in the mud, right? Well, he's got brown mud splashed up on his lower body. And along the outside of the farm, it's not just green, there are leaf imprints and other textures.
I also like how the Little People Animal Sounds Farm can fold up so as not to take up more space than it has to. We try to keep all the parts that came with the Farm inside of it, but from time to time some of the smaller pieces do end up at the bottom of Brandon's huge toy box.
I like how my son can just use his imagination to play with his Little People Animal Sounds Farm, and how he can learn about animals at the same time. I like how some of the pieces are interchangeable, allowing for creative play time.
I honestly can't come up with anything to dislike about the Little People Animal Sounds Farm. As a parent, I feel it is one of the best toys my son has received up to this point in his life. I suppose some adults may not enjoy the sounds the Little People Animal Sounds Farm makes, but they do not bother me in the least. They aren't overly loud and the whole farm is just so darn cute, it's hard not to love it!
bops_mom's Recommendation
I give the Little People Animal Sounds Farm my highest recommendation! I feel the Little People Animal Sounds Farm is a fabulous, safe, durable, fun toy that any young child would greatly enjoy. It's one of the few toys that my son plays with nearly every day; he never seems to run out of things to do with his farm. And truth be told, I love playing with it too - with Brandon, of course. *ahem*
Thanks for reading!
