V-Tech Little Smart Tiny Touch Phone. Ring, Ring, Baby It's For You.
Written: Jan 03 '01 (Updated Jun 08 '01)
Pros:Durable, colorful, educational, keeps infants entertained for hours
Cons:none yet
The Bottom Line: --
My 14-month old daughter Jordan loves playing with my husband’s cell phone and pushing the buttons to see what happens. She also likes the sound of a ringing phone, every time the phone rings she runs up to it and points. So it was only natural I when I came across the V-Tech Little Smart Tiny Touch Phone Plus while out Christmas shopping I would buy it for her. Oh no! Jordan is only 14 months old and already loves “talking” on the phone. What will I do when she is a teenager?!
The V-Tech Little Smart Tiny Touch Phone Plus is a little smaller then a real cordless phone. On the front of the phone is white with musical notes and stars decorations by the animal buttons. There are 4 number buttons, a telephone button, 2 animal buttons and an unbreakable mirror. On the very top of the phone, on the right side is a red antenna. It doesn’t pull out though; it’s more for decoration and to make the phone look more real. On the front of the phone, on the top is an unbreakable mirror, with the edges colored in a bright blue. The mirror is about 2 inches wide by 2 inches tall. On the left side of the mirror are 3 symbols in white (a face, a dot and a musical note). On the side of the phone, on the left is a bright green switch (activity selector) that controls the mode of play your child can use to play with the phone.
When you turn on the talking activity mode (the face symbol) you hear “hello, hello”, the sound of a ringing phone and the number buttons flash. Pushing the orange triangle (number 1) button you will hear a friendly voice say one followed by one musical note and then the number one flashes once. Pushing the green star (number 2) button you hear two followed by two musical notes and then the number one and two flashes. Push the yellow circle (number 3) button you hear three followed by three musical notes and then the number one, two and three flash. Push the red square (number 4) button you hear four followed by four musical notes and then the number one, two, three and four flashes.
When you turn on the musical activity mode (musical note symbol) you hear the sound of a ringing phone and the number buttons flash. When you push the 1 button you hear a friendly voice say triangle and the number buttons flash while playing a tune (Teddy Bear's Picnic). Push the number 2 and you hear star and a tune (Row, Row, Row Your Boat) and the buttons flash. Push the number 3 and you will hear circle and a tune (Ring a Round the Rosies) while the buttons flash. Push the number 4 and you will hear square while a tune (Pop Goes the Weasel) is playing and the buttons flash.
Push the blue telephone shaped button you hear the sound of a phone ringing and the number buttons flash. The phone button does the same thing on both the musical and activity mode. The ringing of the phone sounds so realistic you may mistake it for your own phone ringing.
Push the animal buttons and you will hear the sound the animal makes. The cat button is a yellow musical note shape with a picture of a cat’s face printed in blue in the middle. On the activity mode you hear “meow, meow” while the number buttons light up. On the musical mode you hear the cat “meowing” to several different tunes while the number buttons flash. The dog button is a red shaped musical note shape with a picture of a dog’s face printed in white. On the activity mode you hear “arf arf, arf arf” while the number buttons light up. On the musical mode you hear the dog “arfing” to several different tunes while the number buttons flash.
The underside of the phone is a bright fire engine red. There is a yellow volume control button underneath so you can adjust the volume to low or high. There is only a slight difference in volume though. The V-Tech Little Smart Tiny Touch Phone Plus takes two “AA” batteries. All you need a coin to open up the battery compartment and change the batteries when needed. The compartment stays closed securely with one screw. Another plus about the phone is the on/off switch located on the left side of the phone where the activity switch is (the white dot is the on/off switch).
Jordan got the phone for Christmas and it’s already been through a lot of wear and tear and I can assure you it’s very durable. She has thrown across the room when she is having a temper tantrum and on the floor when we go to the mall to take walks. I have accidentally run over it a few times when she threw it out of her stroller. To keep the phone clean just wipe it down with a dampen cloth.
Jordan loves pushing the number and animal buttons in musical mode and dancing to the music. Jordan has a kitty of her own so she enjoys hearing the cat meowing and occasionally the dog barking. Since she loves the real phone so much she gets a kick out of the phone button and sometimes puts it to her ear pretending she is talking to someone. The cutest thing Jordan does is puts her face right up to the mirror and gives herself kisses. She does this for 5 minutes straight over and over again until the mirror is wet with baby kisses. Jordan stays entertained for 20 to 30 minutes at a time, which is good because she does not have a good attention span yet.
I recommend the V-Tech Little Smart Tiny Touch Phone Plus to anyone who has an infant who loves the sound of a ringing phone. I have almost every toy made by V-Tech and this is another toy I’m pleased with and so is Jordan. Your little one can learn numbers, colors, shapes, animal sounds, and of course the wonderful sound of the ringing phone. Of course with the unbreakable mirror your little ones can look at themselves while “talking” to others and making play dates.
