| tracmd's Full Review: Little Taggie Blanket |
When my daughter was first born, she received a gift basket containing a Little Taggie Blanket. I had never seen a Taggie until then. I was instantly intrigued.
First of all, what in the world is a Taggie?
Taggies is a company that was founded by two young mothers, one of whom who had realized how much her child loved playing with satin tags on items. The original Taggie was a security blanket, with tags on all four sides. This product subsequently led to many other soft Taggie items which have various satin tags protruding out of their seams, or along their edges.
The Little Taggie Blanket
One of the most popular Taggie items is the Little Taggie Blanket. This blanket is 12" square. The blanket consists of two pieces of fleece, stitched together along the seams. The top fleece consists of a pattern, while the bottom piece of fleece is a solid color. For example, the blanket my daughter received is called their "Pink 'n Pretty" pattern. It is pale pink, with paler pink flowers on it. The flowers have yellow centers. The underside is a faint pink color. I think the pattern is very sweet. There are many other patterns to choose from. At this time, there are 13 patterns on the Taggies website which are available for the Little Taggie.
Along each of the four sides of the Taggie are the tags. The tags are like tags you would find in a shirt, or on a plush stuffed animal. Most are smoothed satin, while others are grosgrain. Each tag is different from the next. Some are solid colors, while others have bold patterns (i.e., small puppy faces). One of the tags is an actual informational tag. All tags but the official tag form loops.
The Little Taggie Blanket can have a child's name embroidered on it. In fact, the one my daughter received has her name embroidered on it in yellow. It is very cute.
The Experience
When my husband and I first handed our daughter her Little Taggie, she was instantly enthralled. She was only a young infant at the time, maybe at two or so months old. She instantly loved clutching the blanket. At 12" square, it was a perfect size for a young infant. Not too small, but not too big either. She also quickly discovered the tags. She began to pinch them and smooth her finger tips against them. Then, she discovered how she could stick her fingers through the loops.
Within a very short period of time, our daughter's Little Taggie became a great security blanket for her. When she would cry, we could bring it to her and she would rest her face against it or examine and feel the tags. It would calm her down. I started to take the Taggie with us to her well (and unwell) doctor's visits. It would help keep her calm there too. It is also one of my daughter's favorite companions when we travel in the car.
It became very apparent to me that the two young mothers who started Taggies were really on to something. The blanket, with its colorful and soft fleece, coupled with the bold varying tags to play with, is a complete hit.
Care for Little Taggie
According to the informational tag, the Little Taggie can be machine washed on warm, and tumble dried on low. I followed these directions initially. Now I wash the Taggie on cold, and it doesn't seem to make any difference. The Taggie does pill like most fleece, so it does get a warn look over time. However, as with any security blanket, this only adds to its charm. A regular wash in the washing machine also seems to take out any stains. I am examining my daughter's Little Taggie right now, and don't see a spot on it.
Where you can find a Little Taggie
I think the easiest way to purchase a Little Taggie is through the Taggies website, www.taggies.com. I sent a gift of various Taggie products (including a Little Taggie) to a family friend, and it was super easy. The Little Taggie itself is $19.95. You can also find Little Taggies in gift shops and on other websites. A Google search will bring up a variety of options.
Concluding Thoughts
My daughter has loved her Taggie from the first day she set her little hands on it. There are days that she forgets about it now that she is 20 months old, but she is always happy when she comes across it. I feel that it is a phenomenal product for any baby, in that it is sized appropriately, sturdy, and helps soothe effectively. Incidentally, the family friend who received the Little Taggie from me said that it is her daughter's favorite item and that she won't put it down!
I would highly recommend this product for any small child. It also makes a superb gift for a new baby. It is a great introduction into the world of Taggies, too.
