| neosmom's Full Review: Little Tikes Discoversounds Workshop |
My son received this toy from his grandparents for his first birthday. He was instantly in love. We had a spot just off the living room where it fit perfectly. And there is so much to do.
There are balls, buckets, shapes that are designed to be like screws, a phone, and a hammer. Perfect for a busy little boy. You can drop the balls down into this thing that resembles a drill. When you pull the lever, the balls drop through the bottom and you can catch them with your buckets. There's a little ruler built on the side that the children can slide a plastic pointer back and forth and make a fun clicking sound. There is a cabinet sort of thing where you can drop things in from the top and open the door to get them out. In the center is this spot where you can put the shape screws into appropriate slots and when you bang on them with the hammer, they make cool workshop noises. There are also holes matching these shapes where you can fit them in and then pound them through with the hammer, where they are caught in two bins underneath.
All of this is terrific and my son had the most fabulous time with this toy for about six months.
However, one evening he put a shape screw in one of the holes where he didn't intend for it to be and then he accidentally pushed it through the hole. Only thinking of retrieving the toy, he reached his hand through the hole to get it out. His hand got stuck and he began to scream hysterically. I rushed over immediately to see what was wrong. His hand was stuck pretty good. These holes have fairly sharp pieces of plastic sticking out from the sides. The design is intended to hold the shape screws in place, but to give when they are pounded through. These pieces of plastic cut into my sons arm. We finally managed to get his hand free, but he was covered with scratches from just above his wrist down to the middle of his hand. A couple of them were deep enough to have drawn blood.
As much as my son loved this toy and got so much enjoyment from it for so many months, none of that was worth those moments of fear and pain. I have to recommend that no one buy this toy and if you do, watch your child very carefully around it.
