Little Tikes Glowin' Lion
Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my! Well not really, as Little Tikes has chosen to forget about the Tiger in this lineup... The Little Tikes Glowin' flashlights do include the Lion, Bear, Hippo, Cow, and Elephant, however! On a recent trip my mother-in-law took the boys down to Pamida and bought them a few toys, which included the Little Tikes Glowin' Lion and Cow.
What is it?
Little Tikes Glowin' Lion is a flashlight dressed up as a kid's toy. The flashlight is constructed of molded yellow plastic and includes an 8 1/2" X 6" body complete with handle and built-in 'trigger'. There is a speaker in the well of the handle, and from this point the sound of a light ROAR emerges when the trigger is pulled and the light is turned on. At the same time the lion's head (which is hinged at the jaw) opens up to reveal the flashlight, which also turns on via the trigger. The trigger can lock into position by pulling up on the trigger a tiny bit further. This will cause the head to remain open with the light on, though thankfully the ROAR sound does not loop! There is a 2-minute auto shut off so that if the light is left around the house in the locked position, the batteries (2 'C' cells) do not run completely out of juice.
Our experiences
The two older boys love these flashlights! They are just the right size for the little hands, and the cute ROAR of the Lion and MOO of the cow make them giggle when they are activated. The boys have used these lights to 'explore' the depths of the walk-in closet with no light other than their flashlight! I got a report back that they were very brave in there, and the only annoyance was the fact that the flashlight kicked off after two minutes for no apparent reason!
We have had these flashlights for about 5 months now, and I just replaced the first set of throwaway batteries with a set of rechargeables. This is a simple process requiring opening the battery hatch on the bottom of the light (the feet area of the lion) via use of a Phillips head screw. The battery compartment is not water tight, so do not leave out in the grass during a hard downpour!
Overall, these lights were a big hit, and the batteries and lightbulb are both replaceable. I think we will get years of use out of them, and would recommend them highly!
