| iowamommy's Full Review: Little Tikes High Back Toddler Swing |
We bought the Little Tykes High Back Toddler Swing two years ago. I had been looking at various brands, and this one seemed the most sturdy and supportive of a baby.
The swing is recommended for ages 9-36 months. It is a dark green color, so it is very "unisex" in color. We bought ours for $14.99, and they are available at most discount stores and toy stores.
What I like most about this swing is the high, curved back and the way it curves around the baby. It is high in the back, dips down a bit where the baby's arms go, and then rises slightly again in front. It is a nice shape for baby to lean on if they are slumping. The edge is rounded and comfortable.
Some of the other swings I looked at didn't have much front or side support for an infant. Although most babies 9 months or older sit up well, sometimes they get so excited and wiggly that they end up leaning one way or the other, and this swing had a nice design to accommodate that.
There are no bars to lift up; you simply plop baby in and fasten the seatbelt. The baby's leg go through two cut-out holes in the plastic, so there is a leg divider in between to keep them from slipping out. The seatbelt is the kind that has a webbing with a latch on it that you can tighten or loosen, similar to a high chair strap. The one-piece plastic design reassures me that now pieces will come loose and allow baby to slip out.
If you hate the words "some assembly required," this swing is for you! It comes with the ropes already on it, ready to hang up! You don't even have to open up a box, as they are sold without one. It couldn't get much easier. As for upkeep, I just hose it off now and then when I'm out watering my flowers.
My only complaint is that it can be hard to get the child back out of the swing because when you pull them up, their shoes can get caught in the leg openings. This is somewhat of a blessing in disguise, though, because that also keeps them in there and lessens the fear of them climbing out on their own. My very active daughter never escaped this swing. She actually didn't even want to, because she enjoyed it so much.
We have ours hanging in a tree, and most people simply attach one to a swing set. People even hang them up indoors to allow baby to get more use out of it.
If you are looking for a simple, sturdy and inexpensive swing, give this one a try!
