Pros:Durable miniature doodling toy that can be taken virtually anywhere.
Cons:Definitely buy more than one! Limited availability.
The Bottom Line: For the price, you can't go wrong with this Little Tikes Scribblet. It makes a great stocking stuffer or an inexpensive "just because" gift.
While shopping for small, inexpensive gifts a few weeks ago to fill my 4 1/2 year old son, Tristan's, Easter basket with, I spotted these cute Little Tikes Scribblets at the end of the checkout aisle. At less than $2 each, I thought this mini Magna Doodle and/or Etch-a-Sketch type drawing toy would make a perfect addition to the other items I'd also found that day. There were several colors to choose from, and since they feature the popular and trustworthy Little Tikes name, I had faith that it would last much longer than the real Easter eggs we'd made. Read on to find out more about this simple yet interesting drawing toy that will keep your preschool aged child scribbling on.

~~~The Drawing Toy~~~
Recommended for children ages 3 and older, this Little Tikes Scribblet made of highly durable plastic materials provides lots of take along fun for young artists in training. Measuring approximately four inches by three inches in size, it's small enough to be portable yet has a large enough writing screen so that a small picture can be drawn there or even a few letters/words will also fit. I chose the blue model for my son, but there's also a pink one as well as several other colors (which will vary according to the packaging tab). On the top left hand corner is a plastic clip (which is green in color on the blue model 0374) useful for attaching the scribbler to backpacks and other on-the-go items. In the opposite corner (bottom right) is the miniature 2 1/2 inch size writing tool in blue attached to the body with a 5 1/2 inch white string. So while it's obviously designed for the right handed child (and unlike his mother, Tristan IS unfortunately right handed!), the rectangular drawing surface which is light gray in color can actually be turned sideways as a modification for left handed users. And at the top is the red, white, and blue Little Tikes logo, so it's obvious at the time of purchase that this inexpensive doodling toy features a trusted toy maker's name. And now because of it's ultra coolness factor in this house according to older family members, I now wish I'd picked up more than just one of these Little Tikes Scibblets when I made my impulse purchase.
~~~Packaging, Price, & Availability~~~
While I purchased this Little Tikes Scribblet at my local Wal-Mart for less than $2, I've currently had a hard time finding one online, so shop around as it doesn't seem readily available at present. At that price, I could kick myself for not picking up more than one though! There's no special packaging other than the cardboard tab containing the basic company information as well as the scannable UPC code needed for electronic checkout. So before buying, consumers can actually play with the scribbler and try it out first. That way you truly know what you are buying and just how the drawing toy works beforehand. At the bargain price I paid, definitely purchase several of these Little Tikes Scribblets, especially if you have several children or just want plenty to go around.
I was truly surprised at how much Tristan actually played with this Little Tikes Scribblet when he pulled it out of his Easter basket last weekend. Most kids love to doodle and draw anyway, so he was fascinated with how he could just take the pen and rub it over the surface of this drawing toy and any mark he made would show up. Of course one of the first letters he made was a "T" as he's been working on learning how to write his name before starting kindergarten in the fall. And then he was even more fascinated with how any creation he made would suddenly disappear by turning the toy over and sliding the eraser tab back and forth several times to remove it. Sometimes a few shakes of the scribbler is also needed to completely erase any marks while it's turned upside down, but all it takes is a few seconds of erasing and the drawing surface is clear and ready for your child to start all over again. If only I'd known my older kids (ages 12 and 14) would also enjoy playing with this Little Tikes Scribblet as much as they do (poor Tristan has had to take HIS new toy away from his siblings several times so far!), I would have bought extra and put one in each of their Easter baskets too!
Great for attaching to backpacks or even to leave your older child a short "I Love You" or "You're Special" type note (as well as "Do Your Homework!" or "Clean Your Room!"), this Little Tikes Scribblet originally designed for preschool aged kids can also be useful for all ages. Attractively designed with durable plastic materials made to take a beating and available in varying colors, this handy drawing tool features a small drawing space made especially for nonsense doodling. Featuring a tiny child sized pen that is a bit thin and only slightly awkward for a preschool aged child to grasp, this basic yet fun drawing tool is perfect for car trips to help keep boredom at bay. It requires no batteries and doesn't "do" or "say" anything, but despite its simple properties, this Little Tikes Scribblet inspires a child's imagination as his/her artistic and letter writing skills are enhanced. In conclusion, I highly recommend picking up more than one as even older children and adults will find this handy drawing tool useful and fun! Good luck and happy online toy shopping :-)
