pitfaltina's Full Review: Littlest Pet Shop Get Better Center Playset
When my little girl expressed a fervent desire for Santa Claus to drop off the Get Better Center under the tree last year, I had my misgivings. I knew this set included a "Feed Me" kitty, and I already knew that the "Feed Me" kitty was a total waste of money (and you can read my full review of the "Feed Me" kitty here) I did some reading online and decided to bite the bullet. The result has been pretty much as expected...the toy gets a lot of play, while the "Feed Me" kitty languishes in the darkest corner of the closet.
The Get Better Center folds up for storage, which is great since Santa Claus stupidly brought the Biggest Littlest Pet Shop in the same trip and that takes up most of the closet! The Get Better Center measures only about 16 inches long when fully opened and is about 10 inches high. When closed, the Get Better Center sucks up only 10 inches of space. Awesome!
The Get Better Center features some cute interactive parts and has a decent amount of storage space for the accessories included. The Get Better Center features, from left to right:
Door section
This section just contains a molded door with a window cut out. The door doesn't really open, and this section exists primarily to enable you to close the set up completely.
The X-ray room
The next section, as I have dubbed the X-ray room, features a shelf on which you can place a sick pet or medical supplies, a window cut out, and floor space to set up the X-ray machine. On the roof of this section is a carrying handle so your tot can tote this along to Grandma's house.
The Scale section
The scale section features a scale seat on which you can place one pet. When you stick a pet in there, the seat lowers, which causes the arrow on the scale measure to move to the right. The measure is numbered up to 12. Too cute! The scale section also features a tiny storage drawer that slides all the way out. You can stick all the tiny accessories that come with this set in there.
The Exam Table section
The last section holds an examining table with a flexible plastic light that extends over the table. It would be cooler it this light was movable, but alas, it is fixed firmly in place. Under the examining table is a doggie door that swings up to open.
The Pets
This set comes with three pets. You get a dog that looks something like a boxer. The dog is brown with black on the tips of his ears and he has a magnet in his left paw. You also get a gecko. I suspect this is the reason my daughter wanted this set, as she is very into having all the "rare" pets, much to my dismay. The gecko is utterly adorable. He is green with brown spots. The spots "magically" disappear when you hold the gecko in your hands. As both my daughter and I have ice in our veins instead of blood, we can't say this feature works too well for us. Daddy is always able to cure the gecko, however, and we're insanely jealous.
The final pet is the dreaded "Feed Me" kitty. The "Feed Me" kitty sits in a humongous plastic bed. The bed has two magnets and a post to hold the kitty in place. The bed has a screw-shut battery compartment that holds two AA batteries. When you place the kitty in the bed and hold the feeding bottle to its mouth, the kitty's head bobs up and down and its tongue comes out to lap up the medicine. My daughter absolutely never plays with this kitty, so we're still on the first set of batteries.
The Accessories
The Get Better Center comes with some basic accessories, as follows:
~An X-ray table
When you place a pet on the magnetic paw print on the table and slide the flower lever to the left, an x-ray picture pops up from the table. The picture is of a dog skeleton, which ticks my daughter off whenever she wants to X-ray "Spots" the gecko or "Shelly" the snail. The X-ray table also has a pretend light that extends over the top of the table.
~A bench (I suppose this is meant as waiting room seating?)
~A stethoscope (I'm not sure who is supposed to wear this, because it certainly won't fit on your child!)
~A prescription pad
~A syringe for those dreaded shots
~A cone collar
~A cast (the cast only fits on the dog's paw--why does the dog get all the good stuff in this set?!)
~A bottle of medicine
~Three tiny bandages (these are almost like Colorforms, and they're tiny, and yes, of course they're all lost!)
~A water bottle
The accessories are all supposed to fit in this set, but there's no way that enormous "Feed Me" kitty bed gets into this play set. It's okay, though, since we never use that thing anyway! We can get all the tiny pieces into the storage drawer. (When we can find them, that is. *sigh*)
Would I buy this again? You bet, IF they left out the "Feed Me" kitty and gave us a different pet. My daughter has played with this nearly every day since she got it. We're planning to--oops, I mean, SANTA is planning to supplement this with the new Cozy Care Center this year.
What I like about this toy
~Lots of play value
~Great price
~Durable, durable, durable
~Portable
~Takes up no room at all
What I HATE about this toy
~The stupid "Feed Me" kitty
~Tiny little accessories to feed to the vacuum cleaner
