I have very naturally curly hair, but I like to straighten it sometimes. If I don't have some great tools in my possession, this can be a problem. I have an awesome flat iron but I also need great products in order to achieve a smooth, straight style. Otherwise I will end up with a lot of frizz and a hot mess.

I have tried other Living Proof hair products with great results so when Living Proof recently came out with Straight Spray, I knew I had to have it.
Straight Spray comes in a spray can (available in 2 sizes) and here are the company's claims:
"Straight creates sleek, smooth, shiny straight hair without the use of oils, resins or silicones. The lightweight formula can be reapplied to wet hair or dry hair extending your style for days. Straight won't build up, repels dirt, and helps to protect against heat styling.
Straight contains aerosolized PolyfluoroEster, Living Proof's breakthrough molecule. It creates a weightless shield effectively preventing water from entering the hair shaft and disrupting your straight style. The result is straight hair that lasts for days."
Directions for Use:
-Start with wet hair that has been cleansed, conditioned and detangled.
-Hold Straight Spray about 6" away from head and mist evenly over hair one section at a time for a total of 5-10 seconds.
-Comb through and style with a blow dryer.
-Follow with a flat iron for pin straight styles.
-To touch up and extend the life of your straight style, apply to dry hair and follow with a flat iron or blow-dryer as needed.
The first time I used the spray, I used it on my hair after applying the Straight Styling Cream and blow drying. I used it on each section of my dry hair while I was flat ironing it. It worked well and left my hair soft, smooth and without frizz. I was happy with it but didn't really notice anything extraordinary.
Then I decided to use it on wet hair (as stated in the instructions) to see if it made a difference. Normally when I blow dry my hair, I brush it at the same time to start the smoothing process so that it's easier to flat iron. Even with the help of styling products I usually end up with a whole lot of frizz after blow drying. Then the flat iron smooths it out. But when I used this Straight Spray on my wet hair, then used my blow dryer, it actually smoothed my hair out! So I immediately saw a difference using it this way. Once my hair was dry, I used another light misting of the spray before I used my flat iron (since it protects from heat damage). It was so much easier to flat iron my hair since it was already smoother than usual post-hair dryer. Once I was done flat ironing, I was pleased with how smooth and straight my hair was, but it was also still soft and had movement. This spray, used on wet AND dry hair, didn't seem to cause any sort of buildup or residue. And it didn't weigh my hair down at all.
The real test is going outdoors during the summer because it's so humid in the south. I was thrilled to find, several hours later, that my hair was still smooth and without frizz. This is no small feat for my hair! Even after sleeping with my straight hair, I normally awaken to alot of waves and bumps because my hair holds curl so well. I end up having to re-flat iron the next morning. With the Straight Spray, I didn't even have to do that! My hair stayed super straight and smooth even after a night's sleep.
Another thing I love about Living Proof products is that they repel dirt and oil. I have oily skin so my hair can get oily too which is frustrating if I've only had it straight for one day and then have to wash and start over. With Living Proof products, including Straight Spray, I can go 2-3 days without my hair feeling oily or dirty. I have dry shampoo I can use for touchups in between if necessary. I put alot of work into my hair when it's straight so I don't want to have to do it every single day. It's not worth that much trouble.
The only negative I can say about this spray is the smell. The directions say to spray each section for 5-10 seconds. That's a lot! And the smell is pretty strong.. I'm not sure what it is but it's pretty overwhelming. So now when I spray a good coating on my hair, I step out of the bathroom to do it. That way I can spray and go back into the bathroom (away from the 'fog') and flat iron my hair. So be prepared for the strong smell if you try this. I recommend doing the spraying in another room or even outside if it's convenient, then go into the bathroom to continue styling. When I sprayed this in my bathroom I had to step out for a few minutes and let the air clear before I could continue with my styling. So yeah, it's pretty strong. But it works so well, it will not be a deterrent for me with this product.
I always purchase my Living Proof products from a Sephora store, or on the sephora.com website. The Straight Spray comes in a 5.5 oz can for $29 or a smaller (great for travel) 1.8 oz can for $17. The spray seems to last quite a while, and it works SO well, I don't have a problem with the price tag.
