Pros: Flavorful and refreshing, inexpensive too
Cons: not as much character as I had hoped, a little quick on the finish
The Bottom Line: An excellent daily beer that has more flavor and kick that the Big Three

Imagine a family that has stood by its values and beliefs throughout the years in an effort to bring a quality product to the consumer. One that would make you proud to be an American. One that has gusto, character, spunk.
Nope
this aint no Budweiser
this is Schell, the second oldest family owned and operated beer in the business.
Five generations have passed on their hard work ethics and family recipes to bring to you a wide selection (more than 20 to date) of beers with fabulous flavors.
For over 140 years Schell Deer Brand beer has been the original family recipe sharing its roots with German Pilsners and lagers. The brewer never did go for the rice water approach that the Big Three have fallen into. Instead you get the full flavors of the American plains in your Schell beers, livened with a few hops, malts and sometimes some barley.
Schell Deer Brand pours almost crystal clear with golden accents. The frothy head is active with small bubbles dying to escape the glass. Each burst releasing a small hint of want flavors await your tongue. Unlike the Big Three beers, Schell Deer Brand has small lace lines dancing along the inside of the glass, their migration adding to the freeing of aromas.
And the smell of this beer makes me wonder how the Big Three ever managed to survive. I was surprised as to the freshness of the beer with regards to the aroma. Clean, crisp springtime meadows and cornfields span out in front of me as I inhale my first breath.
First, second and third sip all the same. Brisk and refreshing, but a little less oooomph than what I had hoped for. The flavor is clean and crisp but fades quickly. The are definite malt and hops flavors at play that provide pleasing tastes. I also seemed to taste some actual corn flavor that provides a bit of sweetness to this beer. Overall, this is a fairly light beer in body, not too light, but lighter than most.
Finish is rather quick and and almost bland, I felt that you really have to have another drink to remind your taste buds what it is that you are drinking.
I really enjoyed this beer as a refreshing change to my heavy guys. It seems to be just the ticket for those sweltering summer days. Schell Deer Brand beer is extremely drinkable and easy to enjoy. It is not overpowered by flavors that other beers seem to need. This has most of the qualities that I would expect of a good American beer (not rice water).
I would pair this with any backyard feasting food as well as providing the instant quenching of thirst while outside fixing the fences, barn or just standing in the alleyway (aka Hank Hill syndrome). And the best thing is really the price, for a little less than a Fin you get a quality American beer that has more character and flavor than the Big Three pump out.
