I bought this for the off time I need a WebCam for video conferencing, so I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg.
And boy, do you ever get what you pay for.
I've had nothing but problems with this annoying little piece of hardware from day one. WinXP doesn't seem to want to acknowledge its existence half the time, and I can't find an updated driver for it on Creative's website. The software that comes bundled with it is, by and large, garbage, though I have to admit, that for the price, I didn't really expect much. Really, I wish that ALL it had come with was the drivers. As it is, I've since un-installed pretty much every piece of software that it loaded onto my machine. And there was a lot that came with it. The most annoying of which was some ULead software, which I strongly distrust, because ULead has a habit of bundling a lot of ad-ware with many of their products (though, in this case, it aparently came ad-ware free).
But you won't be exempt from adware if you install any of the software from the accompanying CD. It DOES load those annoying "Free and Unlimited AOL" buttons on your desktop, in your start-up menu, and in your browser favorites. Guess what? If I'm buying a WebCam, chances are I already have a net connection. I DON'T WANT MORE ADVERTISING FOR AOL!!!
It annoys me enough that I have to deal with browser hijacking and adware and spyware on the net on a regular basis, but it ticks me off no end when any of the above come with a PRODUCT I PAID FOR!
The picture quality of this product was grainy, the manual focus mechanism is pathetic, and the drivers, (as mentioned above), are weak in the extreme.
I would recommend virtually ANY product over this one. And if Creative Labs thinks its OK to install advertising for other products when you install a driver for a product you paid for, then they can kiss my grits. I will never touch a Creative Labs product again for this reason alone.
